When the predicted relationship between satisfaction with daily life and physical health status were replicated with four subgroups, further analyses of this concept was undertaken. It was concluded that the content of this concept included the giving-up given-up syndrome described by Engel (1962). This measure explained sixteen percent of the variance in the variable physical health status. Forty-six percent of this concept was explained by perceived control
