Im Glanz der Jahrhundertwende Berta Zuckerkandl war die letzte grosse Salonière des Wien um die Jahrhundertwende. In ihrer Villa in Döbling gaben sich Grössen aus Literatur, Kunst und Politik gegenseitig die Klinke in die Hand. Namen wie Arthur Schnitzler, Gustav Mahler, Gustav Klimt, Franz Werfel oder Hugo von Hofmannsthal sind ebenso mit dem ihren verwoben wie Grössen aus der Pariser Kunst- und Kulturszene, etwa Auguste Rodin, Maurice Ravel oder Eugène Carriere. Die Tochter des Herausgebers des 'Neuen Wiener Tagblattes' und engsten Beraters Kronprinz Rudolfs Moritz Szeps war aber nicht nur Mäzenin der schönen Künste, sondern schrieb selbst Artikel für renommierte Zeitungen, konnte aufgrund ihrer Kontakte in Frankreich als Diplomatin zwischen Österreich und Frankreich vermitteln und wirkte als Geheimagentin während des Ersten Weltkrieges. Berta Zuckerkandl erzählt Anekdoten aus Begegnungen mit Grossen jener Zeit und schildert die Flucht vor dem Naziregime über Frankreich nach Algier. Berta Zuckerkandl, geboren am 13. April 1864 in Wien, gestorben am 16. Oktober 1945 in Paris, war eine österreichische Schriftstellerin, Journalistin, Kritikerin und Salonière
