Electronics industry environmental roadmap
(
Book
)
3 editions published between 1994 and 1996 in English and held by 8 libraries worldwide This 1996 Electronics Industry Environmental Roadmap continues ongoing efforts introduced in 1992 by MCC, working in concert with a diverse group of electronics and information technology manufacturers and their suppliers, and supported by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) of the U.S. Department of Defense under a contract to Wright Labs. This revision of the Roadmap updates and expands upon the top priorities from the 1994 Electronics Industry Environmental Roadmap, produced by MCC with the participation and support of a wide range of companies and associations. One objective is to look at the priorities identified in the 1994 Roadmap and, through a review process, select the top priority issues that need attention in the near term. The discussion and recommendations in this document are intended to provide an agenda for a set of activities that can be launched in the near term, executed through a focused program of cross-industry collaboration, that provide a basis for the next generation of environmental management in the electronics industry. Ultimately, the results will manifest themselves at the bottom line of the corporation, the industry, and the environment.

ES-Kit software development environment : the ISSD and clients
by K. Stuart Smith
(
Book
)
1 edition published in 1988 in English and held by 2 libraries worldwide Abstract: "A central component of the Software Development Environment (SDE) is the Interactive Shell Support Daemon (ISSD). The ISSD establishes communications with other components of the SDE and with the Node Kernel Daemon (NKE), an instance of the Es-Kit Kernel that executes in the SDE host environment. Communications between the ISSD and 'connected' processes proceed through a sequence of fixed format messages that flow in rigidly defined protocols. This memo describes the structure and mechanics of the ISSD implementation and specifies the protocols utilized by the daemon. Appendices provide information useful in the installation and maintenance of the ISSD and its clients. Portions of this report appeared as MCC ES-Kit Technical Memo #22."
LIFE : a natural language for natural language
by Hassan Aït-Kaci
(
Book
)
1 edition published in 1988 in English and held by 2 libraries worldwide Abstract: "Experimenting with formalisms for Natural Language Processing involves costly programming overhead in conventional computing idioms, even as 'advanced' as Lisp or Prolog. LIFE is a programming language which incorporates an elegant type system which supports a powerful facility for structured type inheritance. Also, LIFE reconciles styles from Functional Programming and Logic Programming by implicitly delegating control to an automatic suspension mechanism. This allows interleaving interpretation of relational and functional expressions which specify abstract structural dependencies on objects.

ES-Kit hardware technical memoranda (1H88)
(
Book
)
1 edition published in 1988 in English and held by 1 library worldwide Abstract: "This report reproduces for external distribution eight of the most significant ES-Kit hardware-oriented technical memoranda, which were circulated within the project during the first five months of 1988. These are preliminary design notes, which are expected to evolve over time, as the related hardware subsystem concepts mature. None of this material has previously been published in technical report form. Topics covered include rapid PC board prototyping technologies, the stackable button connector, the ES-kit cabinet layout, the 88k module family definit[i]on, motherboard design notes, the message interface module, the 88k processor module, and the terminator module. These notes will interest researchers tracking evolution of the hardware aspects of the ES-Kit rapid prototyping technologies."
Interactive worksurface : an interface paradigm for sketchable things
by James M Avery
(
Book
)
1 edition published in 1988 in English and held by 1 library worldwide Abstract: "This paper describes a continuing research project whose goal is the development of an interface paradigm which supports the understanding of free form sketchable objects. The research is formulated around direct engagement (Hutchins, Hollan, Norman [1985, 1986]) styles of interaction for user-computer interfaces composed of sketchable objects. The project is divided into three parts. The first part concerns the interface device platform. The device platform, called the 'Interactive Worksurface', is a large, flat, horizontally mounted display that can be placed directly in front of a user. Coupled to the surface of the display is a high resolution, stylus activated, transparent digitizer, and an infra-red touch screen. more
