Graph reduction : proceedings of a workshop, Santa Fé, New Mexico, USA, September 29-October 1, 1986 by Joseph H Fasel( Book )

2 editions published in 1987 in English and held by 267 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume describes recent research in graph reduction and related areas of functional and logic programming, as reported at a workshop in 1986. The papers are based on the presentations, and because the final versions were prepared after the workshop, they reflect some of the discussions as well. Some benefits of graph reduction can be found in these papers: - A mathematically elegant denotational semantics - Lazy evaluation, which avoids recomputation and makes programming with infinite data structures (such as streams) possible - A natural tasking model for fine-to-medium grain parallelism. The major topics covered are computational models for graph reduction, implementation of graph reduction on conventional architectures, specialized graph reduction architectures, resource control issues such as control of reduction order and garbage collection, performance modelling and simulation, treatment of arrays, and the relationship of graph reduction to logic programming

Electronics industry environmental roadmap( Book )

5 editions published between 1994 and 1996 in English and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This 1996 Electronics Industry Environmental Roadmap continues ongoing efforts introduced in 1992 by MCC, working in concert with a diverse group of electronics and information technology manufacturers and their suppliers, and supported by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) of the U.S. Department of Defense under a contract to Wright Labs. This revision of the Roadmap updates and expands upon the top priorities from the 1994 Electronics Industry Environmental Roadmap, produced by MCC with the participation and support of a wide range of companies and associations. One objective is to look at the priorities identified in the 1994 Roadmap and, through a review process, select the top priority issues that need attention in the near term. The discussion and recommendations in this document are intended to provide an agenda for a set of activities that can be launched in the near term, executed through a focused program of cross-industry collaboration, that provide a basis for the next generation of environmental management in the electronics industry. Ultimately, the results will manifest themselves at the bottom line of the corporation, the industry, and the environment
A survey of hypertext by Jeff Conklin( Book )

1 edition published in 1987 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Hypertext is a computer-supported medium for information in which many interlinked documents are displayed with their links on a high-resolution computer screen. The links may be directly activated by a pointing device such as a mouse, which causes the document referenced by the link to appear instantly in a new window on the screen. While the concepts of hypertext are not new, the technology to make it effective is new. This paper reviews most of the existing hypertext systems, and then explores in some detail the fundamental features of hypertext and some of the design options in constructing hypertext systems. The advantages and disadvantages of hypertext are discussed in terms of four major application categories: macro literary systems, problem exploration systems, structured browsing systems, and systems developed to explore hypertext technology

ES-Kit hardware technical memoranda (1H88)( Book )

3 editions published in 1988 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Abstract: "This report reproduces for external distribution eight of the most significant ES-Kit hardware-oriented technical memoranda, which were circulated within the project during the first five months of 1988. These are preliminary design notes, which are expected to evolve over time, as the related hardware subsystem concepts mature. None of this material has previously been published in technical report form. Topics covered include rapid PC board prototyping technologies, the stackable button connector, the ES-kit cabinet layout, the 88k module family definit[i]on, motherboard design notes, the message interface module, the 88k processor module, and the terminator module. These notes will interest researchers tracking evolution of the hardware aspects of the ES-Kit rapid prototyping technologies."

Contexts : a formalization and some applications by R. V Guha( Book )

1 edition published in 1991 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

We also briefly discuss the use of contexts for viewing natural language processing as a constraint resolution process. The discussions of the use of contexts employ a number of examples from Cyc, a large multi- domain common sense knowledge base."
LIFE : a natural language for natural language by Hassan Aït-Kaci( Book )

1 edition published in 1988 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Together, these features provide a convenient and versatile power of abstraction for very high-level expression of constrained data structures. Computational linguistics is a discipline where such abstractions are particularly useful. Therefore, obvious convenience is offered by LIFE for experimentation to the computational linguist, who becomes relieved from burdensome yet extrinsic programming complications. We presently attempt to show how LIFE may be a natural computer language for processing natural human languages."
