Merets Funken = Meret's sparks( Book )

3 editions published between 2012 and 2013 in German and English and held by 59 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

2013 marks the centenary of Meret Oppenheim's birth. As an homage to the artist, 'Merets Funken' brings together paintings and sculptures by selected young Swiss artists in a dialogue with works by the grande dame of Swiss art from the collection in the Kunstmuseum Bern. The exhibition focuses on the legacy of the renowned artist and a reappraisal of her impact and raises questions about the role of contemporary surrealism, with which Meret Oppenheim herself had a very ambivalent relationship. Demonstrating sources of inspiration and topicality in the context of the power of her earlier works facilitates a dialogue that spans eras and generations.0Exhibition: Kunstmuseum Bern, Switzerland (19.10.2012-10.2.2013)

"This work celebrates the 100th birthday of the key representative of French Surrealism, Meret Oppenheim (1913-1985). With Breakfast in Fur (1936), a teacup covered in fur, the young woman became a legend and key protagonist of French Surrealism. Her multifaceted, independent oeuvre includes painting, sculpture, poetry, and design, and avoids any sort of stylistic categorization or strict lines of development. Themes determine her artistic work: the transformation of the genders, of man and animal, nature and culture, reality and imagination; dreams, myths, games, and literary material, such as the writings of C. G. Jung, serve as sources of inspiration. The publication illuminates her diverse body of work in an international context and demonstrates the influence this personality had on later generations of artists, for instance as a feminist role model." -- From the Publisher
