In this satirical film, an unimportant clerk at a bank sees his life transformed when a neighbor child shows him a stone which the child claims is capable of instantly changing any piece of metal into gold. Incredulous at first, the bank clerk becomes convinced by a demonstration of the stone's power and manages to make off with it. Soon he is wealthy and takes pains to preserve the secret of his riches until, drunkenly loquacious, he reveals it during a party at the home of an industrial magnate. The industrialist covets the stone and demands to be let in on its magical formula. This causes a series of calamities that make the bank clerk regret his acquisition

The film Maya Bazaar is an array of three films. Smriti (Memories) is the story of a young widow Kuhu, who is engulfed by the memory of her husband. The story of Kuhu's memories and loneliness is narrated by Nishit to his lady friend when they meet in a bar. Satwa (Soul) is the story of Dhritin, a painter who lives in a big house with his step mother. While looking at a set of photos of old Calcutta clicked by his friend Shomok, he sees the photo of the girl who frequents his dreams. When asked, Shomok says it's his sister Bonolata, who lives far away. Dhritin goes to Shomok's country house in Nijhumpur, where the caretaker Kalida tells him Bonolata who got drowned in the pond. His obsession for Bonolata grows to such extend that one day he creates her out of thin air. Bhobisshot (Future) is the story about Mahesh, a professor of mathematics and Harinath, a professor of Philosophy. Mahesh is an atheist and Harinath is a believer. The argument goes on and through various incidents they come to face the only truth of life, which is death
