Class field theory by Emil Artin( Book )

69 editions published between 1900 and 2009 in English and Undetermined and held by 816 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This classic book, originally published in 1968, is based on notes of a year-long seminar the authors ran at Princeton University. The primary goal of the book was to give a rather complete presentation of algebraic aspects of global class field theory ... In this revised edition, two mathematical additions complementing the exposition of the original text are made. The new edition also contains several new footnotes, additional references, and historical comments."
Rational points on elliptic curves by Joseph H Silverman( Book )

42 editions published between 1961 and 2015 in English and German and held by 721 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The theory of elliptic curves involves a pleasing blend of algebra, geometry, analysis, and number theory. This book stresses this interplay as it develops the basic theory, thereby providing an opportunity for advanced undergraduates to appreciate the unity of modern mathematics. At the same time, every effort has been made to use only methods and results commonly included in the undergraduate curriculum. This accessibility, the informal writing style, and a wealth of exercises make Rational Points on Elliptic Curves an ideal introduction for students at all levels who are interested in learning about Diophantine equations and arithmetic geometry. Most concretely, an elliptic curve is the set of zeroes of a cubic polynomial in two variables. If the polynomial has rational coefficients, then one can ask for a description of those zeroes whose coordinates are either integers or rational numbers. It is this number theoretic question that is the main subject of this book. Topics covered include the geometry and group structure of elliptic curves, the Nagell-Lutz theorem describing points of finite order, the Mordell-Weil theorem on the finite generation of the group of rational points, the Thue-Siegel theorem on the finiteness of the set of integer points, theorems on counting points with coordinates in finite fields, Lenstra's elliptic curve factorization algorithm, and a discussion of complex multiplication and the Galois representations associated to torsion points. Additional topics new to the second edition include an introduction to elliptic curve cryptography and a brief discussion of the stunning proof of Fermat's Last Theorem by Wiles et al. via the use of elliptic curves

Number theory, analysis and geometry : in memory of Serge Lang by D Goldfeld( Book )

6 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 11 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Serge Lang was an iconic figure in mathematics, both for his own important work and for the indelible impact he left on the field of mathematics, on his students, ¡and on his colleagues. Over the course of his career, Lang traversed a tremendous amount of mathematical ground. As he moved from subject to subject, he found analogies that led to important questions in such areas as number theory, arithmetic geometry and the theory of negatively curved spaces. Lang's conjectures will keep many mathematicians occupied far into the future. In the spirit of Lang{u2019}s vast contribution to mathematics, this memorial volume contains articles by prominent mathematicians in a variety of areas, namely number theory, analysis and geometry, representing Lang{u2019}s own breadth of interests.¡A special introduction by John Tate includes a brief and engaging account of Serge Lang{u2019}s life. Class Field Theory by Emil Artin( )

1 edition published in 2009 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This classic book, originally published in 1968, is based on notes of a year-long seminar the authors ran at Princeton University. The primary goal of the book was to give a rather complete presentation of algebraic aspects of global class field theory, and the authors accomplished this goal spectacularly: for more than 40 years since its first publication, the book has served as an ultimate source for many generations of mathematicians. In this revised edition, two mathematical additions complementing the exposition in the original text are made. The new edition also contains several new foot
