For most passengers a trip on the Somerset and Dorset (affectionately known as the 'Slow and Dirty') meant seaside holidays. It ran from Bath up over the Mendip Hills, before dropping down to Evercreech, the junction for Burnham-On-Sea, and on to Bournemouth. Before its unexpected closure in 1966, the Somerset and Dorset was filmed in colour by railway enthusiast Ivo Peters of Bath. His vivid record of the steam age features in these three programs, in which former railwaymen return to see what's left of the line they once worked

Ivo Peters' is as well known as the Somerset and Dorset Railway itself. This video is prepared from his original 16mm colour film of the Railway taken during the years from 1959 to 1966. The programme covers the northern part of the line and is arranged in journey order from Bath (Green Park) to the summit of the line at Masbury. The wide variety of motive power used on the line, from 7F's to 2P's, working alone and double headed, in sun and snow is shown, together with many of the operating features of the line
