Corinthian Hellenistic pottery by G. Roger Edwards ( Book )
in English and held by 14 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"This report focuses on the pottery produced in Corinth in the Hellenistic period down to the time of that city's destruction by Mummius in 146 B.C. Imported pottery of the period, as well as Corinthian Hellenistic ware found elsewhere, has been deliberately excluded except as comparanda. However, in order to present the full history of the Hellenistic shapes the author traces their development from the earliest available Corinthian evidence, in some cases from the 6th century B.C. The shape series are further subdivided according to size categories. The catalogue is fully illustrated with profile drawings and photographs and two plans aid in identifying the deposits. The material is arranged under Wheelmade Fine Ware, Coarse Ware, Blister Ware and Moulded Relief Ware, and is followed by a discussion of the deposits and their chronology. A special section is devoted to the fine ware decorated in West Slope style."--Publisher's website

Archaic Corinthian pottery and the Anaploga well by Darrell A Amyx ( Book )
in English and held by 13 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"In the first section of this book, Amyx catalogues and discusses more than 200 fragments of Archaic Corinthian pottery with figure decoration, selected from those previously unpublished or inadequately published. The authors have also given attention to vase-painters of the Protocorinthian and Corinthian periods who were previously known chiefly from works exported in antiquity, and have succeeded in establishing the importance of the Corinth Museum as a center for the study of the Corinthian Style. In the second section, Lawrence presents the contents of a well dug and filled in the Archaic period. The material ranges from Early Protocorinthian to Late Corinthian and includes an important body of material from a potters' dump, here treated separately. Shape development and chronology have been established, especially for oinochoai and kotylai, based on the long series of stratified examples. Other material in the fill includes coarse ware and fragmentary fine ware. The authors attribute a number of pieces to known and newly identified vase-painters."--Publisher's website
The defenses of Acrocorinth and the lower town by Rhys Carpenter ( Book )
in English and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"The defensive walls that surrounded both the site of ancient Corinth and the citadel of Acrocorinth above it are the focus of this volume. The book starts with a detailed account of the classical fortifications on Acrocorinth. A narrative tracing the walls of the city is supplemented by an account of small-scale excavations in the northeast sector. The long walls to Lechaion protected traffic between the port and Corinth and these are discussed next. The book concludes with the description and discussion of the Byzantine, medieval, and later walls of Acrocorinth, an important strategic location from prehistory to the Ottoman period."--Publisher's website
The sanctuary of Demeter and Kore : topography and architecture by Nancy Bookidis ( Book )
1 edition published in 1997 in English and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"A careful and detailed presentation of the architectural remains of the Sanctuary of Demeter and Kore on the slopes of Acrocorinth, beginning with the earliest traces of occupation in the Mycenaean period and ending with the Late Roman cemetery. The first chapter presents the ancient testimonia for the location of the sanctuary and details its discovery by the excavators. In the chapters on the architecture, arranged chronologically, the authors describe in detail the buildings found on each of the three terraces of the sanctuary, including the dining rooms, cooking and bathing facilities, and religious structures. A separate chapter discusses the elements of the Acrocorinth dining rooms and their place in the architecture of sacred dining. Extensively illustrated with section drawings and plans."--Publisher's website

Sculpture : the reliefs from the theater by Mary C Sturgeon ( Book )
in English and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"The remodeling of the theater at ancient Corinth in the 2nd century A.D. included lavish decorations, the chief of which were three dramatic friezes. In publishing them this book presents the most ambitious sculptural program known among theaters on the Greek mainland, and indeed one of the more elaborate decorative schemes among published theaters of the Roman empire. The friezes (the Gigantomachy, the Amazonomachy, and the Labors of Herakles) are presented each in turn with a discussion of its position in Greek art and a stylistic analysis, followed by a catalogue of the pieces arranged as far as possible in the proposed sequence of relief slabs. There follows a discussion of known theater friezes throughout the classical world and of the Corinth scaenae frons as restored by the author."--Publisher's website
