Inverse Eigenvalue problems : theory, algorithms, and applications by
Moody TenChao Chu(
Book
)
19 editions published between 2005 and 2007 in English and held by 223 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"The basic goal of inverse eigenvalue problems is to reconstruct the physical parameters for a certain system from the knowledge or characteristics of its dynamical behaviour, and such reconstructions are required in a remarkable variety of applications. Associated with any inverse eigenvalue problem are two fundamental questions the theoretic issue on solvability and the practical issue on computability. Both questions are difficult and challenging. In this text, the authors discuss the fundamental questions, some known results, many applications, mathematical properties, a variety of numerical techniques, as well as several open problems."Jacket

Recent advances in iterative methods by
Gene H Golub(
Book
)
11 editions published in 1994 in English and Undetermined and held by 212 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The solution of very large sparse or structured linear algebra problems is an integral part of many scientific computations. Direct methods for solving such problems are often infeasible because of computation time and memory requirements, and so iterative techniques are used instead. In recent years much research has focussed on the efficient solution of large systems of linear equations, least squares problems, and eigenvalue problems using iterative methods. This volume on iterative methods for sparse and structured problems brings together researchers from all over the world to discuss topics of current research. Areas addressed included the development of efficient iterative techniques for solving nonsymmetric linear systems and eigenvalue problems, estimating the convergence rate of such algorithms, and constructing efficient preconditioners for special classes of matrices such as Toeplitz and Hankel matrices. Iteration strategies and preconditioners that could exploit parallelism were of special interest. This volume represents the latest results of mathematical and computational research into the development and analysis of robust iterative methods for numerical linear algebra problems. This volume will be useful for both mathematicians and for those involved in applications using iterative methods

March 2228, 1998 by
Walter Gautschi(
Book
)
10 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 155 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This volume contains a collection of papers dealing with applications of orthogonal polynomials and methods for their computation. The applications address problems in applied mathematics as well as problems in engineering and the sciences. Prominent among the former are leastsquares approximations, Gauss and related quadrature, iterative methods in linear algebra, the detection of singularities, and integral equations. Applications of the latter kind include the use of wavelets in medical diagnostics and the relevance of orthogonal polynomials in optimal control, dynamical systems, and gas dynamics. Computational methods relate to numerical and symbolic computation and include, in particular, matrix interpretation and convergence, perturbation, and stability analyses of relevant algorithms. Generalizations of orthogonal polynomials are also considered, for example, sorthogonal, matrix and tensorvalued, Mntztype, and complex orthogonal polynomials. This volume is of interest to a wide audience of numerical analysts, engineers, and scientists

Recent advances in Lanczosbased iterative methods for non symmetric linear systems by
Roland W Freund(
Book
)
2 editions published in 1992 in English and held by 74 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Abstract: "In recent years, there has been a true revival of the nonsymmetric Lanczos method. On the one hand, the possible breakdowns in the classical algorithm are now better understood, and socalled lookahead variants of the Lanczos process have been developed, which remedy this problem. On the other hand, various new Lanczosbased iterative schemes for solving nonsymmetric linear systems have been proposed. This paper gives a survey of some of these recent developments."

Matrix methods : theory, algorithms and applications : dedicated to the memory of Gene Golub by International Conference on Matrix Methods and Operator Equations(
Book
)
6 editions published in 2010 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Compared to other books devoted to matrices, this volume is unique in covering the whole of a triptych consisting of algebraic theory, algorithmic problems and numerical applications, all united by the essential use and urge for development of matrix methods. This was the spirit of the 2nd International Conference on Matrix Methods and Operator Equations from 2327 July 2007 in Moscow that was organized by Dario Bini, Gene Golub, Alexander Guterman, Vadim Olshevsky, Stefano SerraCapizzano, Gilbert Strang and Eugene Tyrtyshnikov. Matrix methods provide the key to many problems in pure and applied mathematics. However, linear algebra theory, numerical algorithms and matrices in FEM/BEM applications usually live as if in three separate worlds. In this volume, maybe for the first time ever, they are compiled together as one entity as it was at the Moscow meeting, where the algebraic part was impersonated by Hans Schneider, algorithms by Gene Golub, and applications by Guri Marchuk. All topics intervened in plenary sessions are specially categorized into three sections of this volume. The soul of the meeting was Gene Golub, who rendered a charming "Golub's dimension" to the three main axes of the conference topics. This volume is dedicated in gratitude to his memory
