The title character is a German high school student who, having won an essay competition on "Freedom in Europe," finds the inhabitants of her town unwilling to participate in her next essay, "My Home Town During the Third Reich." The film is based on the real life experiences of Anja Rosmus who was ostracized from her community for delving into her town's connection to the Nazi party during the 1930's and 40's. Rosmus grew up in the Bavarian town of Passau near the Austrian border. Passau had extensive connections to the Nazi party prior to and during World War II; many of Passau's Jewish residents fled to the United States during this period. The film depicts German fascism, not only in the past, but also in the present. In the course of the film, Sonja learns that there had been eight concentration camps in the area and that all the town's Jews were forced to flee and their property confiscated. Sonja eventually wins a court case granting her access to the town's archives. In response, her town's hostility escalates from verbal abuse, to death threats, to physical assaults as they attempt to silence her, but nothing deters her. The family survives a bomb attack from the angry townsfolk, but Sonja keeps up her research

The unknown soldier( Visual )

The Wehrmacht-Exhibition, which was shown in eleven major cities in Germany between 1999 and 2004 and was visited by more than 500,000 attendants, challenged ordinary Germans to rethink what their fathers and grandfathers did during the war. Whereas most had been led to believe that the cold-blooded murder of civilians had been a crime of a minority of officers, for the first time Germans saw photos and footage of ordinary soldiers gleefully tormenting and executing civilians on the Eastern front. The nation was shaken, and large protests were organized by those who believed the evidence was manufactured. In The Unknown Soldier, director Michael Verhoeven (The Nasty Girl) interviews historians and experts, including those who allege or deny the crimes, and filmed in the killing fields of Ukraine and White Russia

The expropriation of assets from German Jews, during the Third Reich, benefitted virtually every German citizen. It was not only the Gestapo who invaded Jewish residences in order to confiscate all property, from bank accounts to the last shirt, it was the German tax officials. A competition evolved between bureaucrats as to how to organize the robbery of the Jews before they were expelled, or sent to their deaths. Larger assets went to the tax offices, and the smaller assets and goods were sold to friends and neighbors in public auctions of "non-Aryan" property. Many of the documents proving this expropriation were lost or destroyed; the ones that remained were hidden away. Using first-hand accounts, award-winning filmmaker Michael Verhoeven goes on a search to unearth evidence documenting one of the greatest robberies in human history"--Container

Von der "Enteignung" der Juden hatten lle anderen deutschen Bürger etwas.
