The changing face of economics : conversations with cutting edge economists by
David C Colander(
Book
)
4 editions published between 2004 and 2007 in English and held by 19 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This book gives the reader a sense of the modern economics profession and how it is changing. The volume does so with a set of nine interviews with cutting edge economists, followed by interviews with two Nobel Prize winners, Paul Samuelson and Kenneth Arrow, reflecting on the changes that are occurring. What results is a clear picture of today's economicsand it is no longer standard neoclassical economics. The interviews and commentary together demonstrate that economics is currently undergoing a fundamental shift in method and is moving away from traditional neoclassical economics into a dynamic set of new methods and approaches. These new approaches include work in behavioral economics, experimental economics, evolutionary game theory and ecological approaches, complexity and nonlinear dynamics, methodological analysis, and agentbased modeling

Effect of discontinuous boundary conditions on finitedifference solutions by
J. Barkley Rosser(
Book
)
6 editions published in 1975 in English and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
If one is solving a Laplace differential equation by the standard 5point or 9point difference approximation, a discontinuity of the boundary values will cause the approximate solution to be in error in the interior. The amount and nature of these errors is discussed, and it is shown that a properly chosen 9point approximation yields greater accuracy than a 5point approximation for certain problems of this type

Solving differential equations on a hand held programmable calculator by
J. Barkley Rosser(
Book
)
5 editions published in 1978 in English and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Most scientists who occasionally have to solve numerically a differential equation now own a hand held programmable calculator which will very often be adequate. Since hand held calculators are slow, there is particular need to keep the number of function evaluations to a minimum. At first thought, this would seem to rule out use of RungeKutta methods, but recent developments may make them competitive after all. In the area of predictorcorrector methods, some variations make excessive use of memory locations for a hand held calculator. An analysis of such matters is made in order to advise as to good procedures to follow, including alerting the solver to methods that are seldom taught in numerical analysis courses (where the emphasis is on the use of large fast computers)
