"Steve McCurry (b. 1950) is best known for his evocative colour photography of Southeast Asia. He has captured stories of human experience which, in the finest documentary tradition, cross boundaries of language and culture. McCurry's career was launched in 1979 when he crossed the border from Pakistan into rebel-controlled Afghanistan just before the Russian invasion. A contributor to National Geographic for many years and a member of Magnum Photos since 1986, McCurry's images have become modern icons."--Jacket

Wilted country by Roger Eberhard( Book )

4 editions published in 2010 in German and English and held by 75 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the years following World War II, the National Highway System began to expand into the American West, improving trade and bringing with it tourists from the East Coast. Along these new thoroughfares grew several small communities hoping to cash in on this sudden influx. By century's end, however, many of these upstart communities had failed, and huge numbers of their residents had left in search of another livelihood. But what happens to these communities when all the people have disappeared? In late 2008 Swiss-born and American-educated photographer Roger Eberhard (*1984) set out on a road trip to find out. With camera in tow, Eberhard journeyed from Reno to Montana, on to North and South Dakota, then south to Texas. Along the way he encountered-and captured on film-several remnants of a once bustling past, from toppled water towers and boarded-up businesses to abandoned homes hidden behind overgrown lawns. Eberhard's resulting images explore the enduring impact that humans have on their landscape and simultaneously offer an evocative tour through the past and present of the storied American West. Wilted Country collects the best of Eberhard's images in a single volume and complements them with critical essays on the artist's craft by Anthony Bannon, the director of the George Eastman House and Benedict Wells, a young German novelist

Picturing Asia : double take : the photography of Brian Brake and Steve McCurry( Book )

1 edition published in 2016 in English and held by 19 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Brian Brake (1927-1988, New Zealand) and Steve McCurry (1950-, U.S.A.) are two eminent photojournalists whose work concurs with the mission of Asia Society-to promote greater understanding of Asia. The catalogue title Picturing Asia references two kinds of picturing: what we do when we make a photograph, and the imaginative act implied by the phrase picture this . This double take carries over into the experience of seeing the different takes of two great photographers who made their reputations as visual storytellers providing eyewitness accounts of great events . This catalogue invites viewers to participate in a rich visual conversation between the two photographers and their individually distinct picturings of Asia. Brake's international career as a documentary photographer was launched by his photo essays on China in Life in 1957 and 1959. McCurry's breakthrough came with the publication of a photograph in the New York Times, 1979, of the war in Afghanistan. Both men photographed the monsoon-Brake in 1960, McCurry in 1983-1985-and it is here that this exhibition begins

Warheads by Diane Bush( Book )

1 edition published in 2006 in English and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Collection of 26 prints. Diane used a macro lens at weird angles to the TV to achieve what many thought were computer- manipulated pictures of fat headed TV anchors (WARHEADS) and newscasters. As a reaction to the increased violence of the Iraqi war, Diane re-worked her original Gulf War prints by dragging them outside and throwing potassium ferry cyanide (bleach) on the prints and immediately hosing them down. This "agit-pop" resulted in fiery red, orange, yellow, and white organic "explosions" on the prints ... a visual commentary on how protected those who speak of the war, are in their safe, secure media "control" rooms
