(Producer) Tapes 1 and 2 answer the following questions: How did it all begin? What were the benchmark discoveries that started the revolution in DNA technology? How did those discoveries change the way scientists viewed the role of DNA? Whatdo "chromosome," "gene," "genetic engineering," and "DNA" really mean? Tapes 3 and 4 address the questions: How can DNA technology predict future illnesses and produce new medical therapies? What effects will this technology have on health care aroundthe globe? How is DNA technology being used to increase our food supply? Tapes 5 and 6 explores the questions: What are the ethics of using DNA technology to disclose our medical futures? Should the government regulate this new technology? Could DNAtechnology get out of control? Will DNA evidence be used to decide court cases? How is technology affecting society in general and each of us as individuals?

Mammary-Specific Gene Transfer for Modeling Breast Cancer( Book )

3 editions published between 2000 and 2001 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Several genetic alterations have been identified in breast cancer, yet the molecular mechanisms leading to breast tumorigenesis are unknown. In order to develop a mouse model system that can dissect the genetic pathways involved in breast tumor development, we are adapting a somatic gene transfer system based on avian leukosis virus A (ALV-A) expression vectors and the TVA receptor for ALV-A. Transgenic mice have been generated that target tv-a to the mammary epithelial cells using MMTV and WAP promoters. Mammary epithelial cells from these transgenic mice are susceptible to infection both in vivo and in vitro. The animals developed should be valuable for gene delivery using the ALV-TVA vector system
