Two letters to Francis Revell are from Mary Sherwood, his sister, describing the economic conditions in Ireland, activities of adherents of Ribbonism, and family concerns. A letter from James to Francis, also discusses family, the economics of Ireland, crime and the rising number of troops sent to Canada. In 1830, James wrote about supporting a family member's medical studies. Other topics include the conversion of Catholics to Methodism, debt collection, poverty, emigration to the U.S. and Canada, and a local militia, the Preble Light Cavalry. There are seven letters from Worthington Whittredge, noted portrait and landscape painter, concerning family relationships, the Victor Whitridges of Baltimore, genealogy, and his painting.
