Summary: A knotted handkerchief, intended as a reminder about a leaking tap, goes wandering off on its own when it drops out of the pocket of its young owner. It chases a butterfly, preens itself in a broken mirror and finally, lies down in the warm sun. Meanwhile at home, water begins to drip onto the floor and a towel sends out an emergency call to all the washing in the district who capture the lazy handkerchief and force it to return to its owner. The tap is soon fixed and the handkerchief, its job completed, stretches out on the table

Summary: A young servant is sent by his evil master, the king, to find the princess with the golden hair. The boy sets out on his long journey and enroute he renders service to a pair of ravens, a fish and a colony of ants. They, in turn, offer to help him should the occasion ever arise. At last he finds the princess but is subjected to four trials before her father will relinquish his daughter. When the boy returns home with his beautiful charge, the king orders a wedding banquet but commands that the boy he executed. In the course of events, it is the king who loses his life and the story ends amid the joyful celebration of the young pair
