The book of the courtier by Baldassarre Castiglione( Book )

89 editions published between 1561 and 2011 in 3 languages and held by 356 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Baldesar Castiglione, an Italian diplomat and man of letters began to write The Book of the Courtier while he was attached to the court of the Duke of Urbino and finished it by 1516. It was published by Aldo in Venice in 1528 and almost immediately achieved international renown, being translated into English by Sir Thomas Hoby as early as 1561. Today it still remains the most vivid picture ever set down of Italian court life during the Renaissance; and in this new, unexpurgated translation has been, the discussions it records of what constitutes the "Perfect courtier" - and his ideal counterpart, the court lady - have an astonishing freshness and pertinence. Here is the Renaissance in its most charming aspect, with revealing sidelights on its social life, ethics, politics, humor, sports, and relations between the sexes. The 32 pages of pictures, chosen especially for this edition, portray some of the famous personages, scenes, and activities described in the book." -- from back cover

English: The editorial history of their works and the introduction of Italian Renaissance poetry into Spain have united Boscán and Garcilaso de la Vega in the history of literature. Boscán hired the bookseller Joan Bages to print his poems, which would come from the press of Carles Amoros in 1543, in a work characterised by the variety of fonts used. It is believed that this edicio princeps reproduces an original copy prepared by Boscán himself and selected among his production. IV Libro (Book IV), also in edicio princeps, contains the odes, elegies and sonnets of Garcilaso, whose manuscripts had passed to his good friend Boscán after his death, as explained in the forward addressed to the readers. After publishing nineteen joint editions, in 1569 Mathias Gast published the work of Garcilaso separately for the first time

"November 9th, 1938 is widely seen as a violent turning point in Nazi Germany's assault on the Jews. An estimated 400 Jews lost their lives in the anti-Semitic pogrom and more than 30,000 were imprisoned or sent to concentration camps, where many were brutally mistreated. Thousands more fled their homelands in Germany and Austria, shocked by what they had seen, heard and experienced. What they took with them was not only the pain of saying farewell but also the memory of terrible scenes: attacks by mobs of drunken Nazis, public humiliations, burning synagogues, inhuman conditions in overcrowded prison cells and concentration camp barracks. The reactions of neighbours and passers-by to these barbarities ranged from sympathy and aid to scorn, mockery and abuse."--book jacket
