A ban on the reading, preaching, teaching and further publication of the Spanish Jesuit Mateo de Moya's Opusculum singularia universae ferè theologiae moralis complectens, first published in 1657. Written pseudonymously, Moya's book is a defense of Jesuit casuistry through the teachings of, amongst other authorities, the Church Fathers. Given approbation by Spanish authorities in its first three editions (Bamberg & Panormi, 1657, Valentiae, 1661, and Matriti, 1664), the Lyon, 1664 edition at first too received the endorsement of French authorities, including the Archbishop of Lyon, but then acquired the condemnation of the Faculty of the Sorbonne. The decision was reversed by the approbation of Pope Alexander VII in 1666, only to have the pope reverse his decision when the Sorbonne loudly complained that it truly had the authority to censor texts. The pope then placed the text in the hands of the Inquisition, which placed the book on the Index Prohibitorum Librorum. The current document is Pope Innocent XI's attempt at a final extirpation of Moya's text
