Burgers-KPZ turbulence : Göttingen lectures by W. A Woyczyński ( Book )
20 editions published in 1998 in 3 languages and held by 422 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
These lecture notes are woven around the subject of Burgers' turbulence/KPZ model of interface growth, a study of the nonlinear parabolic equation with random initial data. The analysis is conducted mostly in the space-time domain, with less attention paid to the frequency-domain picture. However, the bibliography contains a more complete information about other directions in the field which over the last decade enjoyed a vigorous expansion. The notes are addressed to a diverse audience, including mathematicians, statisticians, physicists, fluid dynamicists and engineers, and contain both rigorous and heuristic arguments. Because of the multidisciplinary audience, the notes also include a concise exposition of some classical topics in probability theory, such as Brownian motion, Wiener polynomial chaos, etc
Probability theory and harmonic analysis by J.-A Chao ( Book )
8 editions published in 1986 in English and held by 287 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Random series and stochastic integrals : single and multiple by Stanisław Kwapień ( Book )
12 editions published between 1991 and 2002 in English and held by 284 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Introductory statistics and random phenomena : uncertainty, complexity, and chaotic behavior in engineering and science by Manfred Denker ( Book )
12 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 245 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Nonlinear stochastic PDE's : hydrodynamic limit and Burgers' turbulence ( Book )
9 editions published between 1995 and 1996 in English and held by 188 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This volume is a based on recent research which focuses on the area of nonlinear stochastic partial differential equations. The first section contains work on fundamental problems of hydrodynamic limit for particle systems and on random media. The second part groups together papers under the umbrella of the name "Burgers' turbulence", although a broader spectrum of stochastic problem for the Burgers' equation is actually addressed. Finally, the last part deals with the stochastic Navier-Stokes equation both from mathematical and physical perspective. This book is suitable for mathematicians and students
Stochastic models in geosystems by S. A Molchanov ( Book )
7 editions published between 1996 and 1997 in English and held by 178 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This volume contains the edited proceedings of a workshop on stochastic models in geosystems held during the week of May 16, 1994 at the Institute for Mathematics and its applications at the University of Minnesota. The authors represent a broad interdisciplinary spectrum including mathematics, statistics, physics, geophysics, astrophysics, atmospheric physics, fluid mechanics, seismology and oceanography. The common underlying theme was stochastic modeling of geophysical phenomena and papers appearing in this volume reflect a number of research directions that are currently pursued in this area. From the methodological mathematical point of view most of the contributions fall within the areas of wave propagation in random media, passive scalar transport in random velocity flows, dynamical systems with random forcing and self-similarity concepts including multifractals
Distributions in the physical and engineering sciences by A. I Saichev ( Book )
5 editions published in 1997 in English and Undetermined and held by 175 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Distributions in the Physical and Engineering Sciences is a comprehensive exposition on analytic methods for solving science and engineering problems. It is written from the unifying viewpoint of distribution theory and enriched with many modern topics which are important for practitioners and researchers. The goal of the books is to give the reader, specialist and non-specialist, useable and modern mathematical tools in their research and analysis. This new text is intended for graduate students and researchers in applied mathematics, physical sciences and engineering. The careful explanations, accessible writing style, and many illustrations/examples also make it suitable for use as a self-study reference by anyone seeking greater understanding and proficiency in problem solving methods presented. The book is ideal for a general scientific and engineering audience, yet it is mathematically precise
Ind-additive functionals on random vectors by W. A Woyczyński ( Book )
7 editions published in 1970 in 3 languages and held by 51 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Distributions in the physical and engineering sciences by A. I Saichev ( )
4 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 28 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Distributions in the Physical and Engineering Sciences is a comprehensive exposition on analytic methods for solving science and engineering problems. It is written from the unifying viewpoint of distribution theory and enriched with many modern topics that are important for practitioners and researchers. The goal of the books is to give the reader, specialist and non-specialist, useable and modern mathematical tools in their research and analysis. Volume 2: Linear and Nonlinear Dynamics of Continuous Media continues the multivolume project that endeavors to show how the theory of distributions, also called the theory of generalized functions, can be used by graduate students and researchers in applied mathematics, physical sciences, and engineering. It contains an analysis of the three basic types of linear partial differential equationselliptic, parabolic, and hyperbolicas well as chapters on first-order nonlinear partial differential equations and conservation laws, and generalized solutions of first-order nonlinear PDEs. Nonlinear wave, growing interface, and Burgers equations, KdV equations, and the equations of gas dynamics and porous media are also covered. The careful explanations, accessible writing style, many illustrations/examples and solutions also make it suitable for use as a self-study reference by anyone seeking greater understanding and proficiency in the problem solving methods presented. The book is ideal for a general scientific and engineering audience, yet it is mathematically precise. Features Application oriented exposition of distributional (Dirac delta) methods in the theory of partial differential equations. Abstract formalism is keep to a minimum. Careful and rich selection of examples and problems arising in real-life situations. Complete solutions to all exercises appear at the end of the book. Clear explanations, motivations, and illustration of all necessary mathematical concepts
