The ergonomics of computer interfaces : designing a system for human use by Lambert Meertens( Book )
3 editions published in 1992 in English and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Abstract: "This document discusses the ergonomic problems with currently available software products, and what in general is necessary in order to make an application pleasant to work with. The application of these principles to a new open-architecture user interface system, Views, is then described."
The ABC structure editor : structure-based editing for the ABC programming environment by Lambert Meertens( Book )
4 editions published in 1992 in English and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Abstract: "ABC is an interactive programming language where both ease of learning and ease of use stood high amongst its principle design aims. The language is embedded in a dedicated environment that includes a structure-based editor. To fit in with the design aims, the editor had to be easy to learn, demanding a small command set, and easy to use, demanding a powerful command set and strong support for the user in composing programs, without enforcing a computer-science understanding of issues of syntax and the like. Some novel design rules have led to an interesting editor, where the user may enter and edit text either structurally or non- structurally, without having to use different 'modes'."
Constructing a calculus of programs by Lambert Meertens( Book )
6 editions published in 1989 in English and Dutch and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Abstract: "A large part of the effort in formal program developments is expended on repeating the same derivational patterns over and over again. The problem is compounded by notations that require many marks on paper for expressing one elementary concept, and 'administrative overhead', consisting of algorithmically uninteresting but technically necessary steps, like shuffling parts of an expression around without change in computational meaning, and the introduction of local auxiliary definitions for lack of a suitable notation for what is being defined. This can to a large extent be avoided by developing suitable theories, including a notation that is designed to increase the manipulability

Placing mirrors in grids by Evangelos Kranakis( Book )
4 editions published in 1989 in English and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Abstract: "We study instances of the following 'Mirror Placement' problem on a (multidimensional) grid. Namely, we are given a light source S to be located at a node of the grid which is emitting a light beam in a single direction (e.g. a laser). We want to determine what is the minimum number of mirrors that must be placed on individual nodes of the grid in such a way that the light beam emanating from the source S will eventually 'hit' all of the vertices of the grid by traversing only edges of the grid. In this paper we develop an asymptotically optimal algorithm for placing mirrors on the vertices of complete multidimensional grids and analyze the worst-case behavior of any possible mirror-placement algorithm."
