Items of interest include a letter by Carolus-Durand from Brussels informing Neithinger that he has finished the painting of the "Italienne" and wants to send it soon, because he is moving to a new studio, has a new baby, and needs the promised payment (1871 Aug. 7). Asks an anonymous person not to publish the etching made after an "abominable" portrait that does not represent him; he will also notify Claretie about that (1883 June 5). Another letter to the same person thanks him for sending Claretie's work about him. Both letters probably relate to Jules Claretie's Peintres et sculpteurs contemporains, published in 1882-1884. The artist informs a friend that he needs a vacation before starting Louis Pasteur's portrait, and asks him to ask Pasteur to postpone his sitting (1886 July 17). He suggests to Emile Lévi's widow an efficient tactic for persuading the Lille museum to buy her husband's work (1890 Dec. 3). Sends Jules Massenet a telegram asking for a meeting before the composer's departure for Vienna, and reminding him that he counts on his vote for his presentation to the Institut de France (1892 Jan. 8). There are three letters sent to Armand Silvestre in 1893: the artist congratulates him for his wonderful book [Amours folâtres] (Jan. 10); invites him to his studio for a sitting of his "amiable modèle" (Nov. 9); and will send the finished portrait11ocn045664981book19140.47Hôtel DrouotCatalogue des tableaux, dessins, aquarelles par Bastien Lepage, Baudry (P.), Beers (Van), Boudin (E.), Brown (J.L.), Cazin, Corot, Couture (Th.), Dagnan Bouveret, Degas, Delacroix (Eug.), Denis (M.), Detaille (Ed.), Domingo, Doré (G.), Dupré (J.), Dupré (V.), Fantin Latour, Forain, Fortuny, Friant (E.), Granet, Harpignies, Hebert, Hein, Henner, Ingres, Isabey (Eug.), Jacque (Ch.), Jacquet (G.), Lainé (Eug.), Martin (Henri), Ménard, Mérimée (Prosper), Michel (G.), Muenier, Picasso, Raffaelli, Regamey, Renouard, Ribot (Th.), Rops (F.), Rousseau (Th.), Sardou (Victorien), Simon (Lucien), Tassaert, Théophile Gautier, Vollon (Ant.), Willette, Ziem, etc. : sculptures par Charpentier, Falguière, Fremiet, Injalbert, Mène, Mercier, Constantin MeunierCatalogs11ocn612777595book18601.00Poulet-Malassis, AugusteEpigrammes :Includes an unpublished poem of 4 lines attributed to Charles Baudelaire (f. 8)11ocn230479540book1886Claretie, JulesAutograph letter signed from Jules Claretie, Paris, to an unidentified recipient11ocn230405532bookClaretie, JulesAutograph letters signed from Jules Claretie to various peopleCorrespondents: Charles Edward Flower and Abraham Stoker11ocn034578353art19810.47Fondation Taylor (Paris, France)Exposition des oeuvres de N. Their correspondence started soon after the artist had painted Claretie's portrait in 1888, which is a recurrent subject in his letters for years afterward (1890, 1892, 1896). Claretie is grateful for its "vibrant" quality, which justifies its success at the Salon and at exhibitions abroad. He thanks Ferrier for a poster made for the theater (1895); congratulates him for the commission of a large canvas for the Paris Hôtel de Ville (1900-1901); and is eager to see Ferrier's new portrait of Pope Pius X (1904). Claretie apologizes in many letters for not finding the time to meet his friend, and describes his stressful responsibilities as administrator general of the Comédie Française. He asks Ferrier to visit him at the theater, and provides him and his family with tickets often hard to obtain. In March 1904 Claretie confesses that he had consented to sit for a portrait by an "interesting and charming" young artist. In 1906 he is delighted to address Ferrier not only as his portraitist and friend, but now also as "confrère" [after his admission at the Institute of France, where Claretie had been a member since 1888]+-+3554218066324+-+3554218066324Fri Mar 21 15:44:21 EDT 2014batch70893
