Thermo-structural analysis manual by Framingdale, N.Y Republic Aviation Corporation( Book )

1 edition published in 1962 in English and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This second volume of the Thermo-Structural Analysis Manual considers additional problems in the field of thermal and mechanical stress analysis not fully treated in Volume 1. Special emphasis is given to nonlinear analysis of beams and plates and to axisymmetric thermo-elastic ANALYSIS OF THIN SHELLS. Following the format of Volume 1, nondimensional graphs, formulas and tables are developed where feasible. For clarification of the analytical techniques and the use of the numerical data, illustrative examples are given. The following problems are treated: (1) large deflection analysis of straight elastic beams with axial end restraint and axial end loads coupled with transverse loading and temperature, (2) approximate determination of the axal end loads and deformations in heated beam columns with initial eccentricities, (3) approximate solutions for the buckling of eccentric columns accommodating nonlinear stress strain laws, (4) axisymmetric large deflections of circular plates subjected to thermal and mechanical loads, and (5) axisymmetric thermo-elastic analysis of thin shells

Symposium on Fibrous Materials : proceedings : preprint : October 16-17, 1962 by Symposium on Fibrous Materials( Book )

1 edition published in 1963 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This report is a collection of papers presented at the Directorate of Materials and Processes "Symposium on Fibrous Materials" held in Dayton, Ohio, on 16-17 October 1962. The purpose of this symposium was to review the recent progress on both contractual and internal research programs sponsored by the Fibrous Materials Branch of the Nonmetallic Materials Laboratory in the area of new translation of fibers into flexible, high strength materials

Growth and analysis of alumina "whiskers"' by Charles T Lynch( Book )

1 edition published in 1962 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Alumina whiskers were grown at 1700 to 1800 C in argon and helium atmospheres containing small amount of hydrogen. Whiskers thus produced were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, by spectrographic emission, and by wet chemical methods. For the chemical analysis a scheme was developed for establishing impurity levels in the whiskers. Also, a simple tube furnace apparatus for whisker growth is described. Conditions conductive to growth were investigated, as well as characteristics of whisker growths. Some whiskers which possess unusually complex dendritic growth patterns were examined in considerable detail, and evidence was found of several distinct types of growth forms

Investigation of the effects of processing variables and fabrication techniques upon the properties of intermetallic compounds by Richard S Truesdale( Book )

1 edition published in 1962 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Intermetallic compounds of NbBe12, Nb2Be17, Nb2Be19, and Ta2Be17 were fabricated by uniaxial pressing and sintering techniques. Results of sintering studies on Nb2Be17 are discussed. The effects of particle size, stoichiometry, temperature, and time upon the sintered density, grain size, and strength of Nb2Be17 are described. A modulus of rupture evaluation is made on Nb2Be17 up to 2750 F, and results of tensile, Young's modulus, thermal conductivity, and oxidation studies are discussed. The feasibility of scaling-up to large and complicated shapes by isostatic pressing, slip casting, extrusion, hot pressing, and flame spraying is demonstrated. The temperature-pressure-flow characteristics of several beryllides at temperatures of 2750 to 3050 F are evaluated together with microstructural stability. The metallurgical fabrication techniques of forging, forming, and rolling as applied to Nb2Be17 are examined
Mechanically initiated reactions of organic materials in missile oxidizers by R. L Hauser( Book )

1 edition published in 1961 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This report presents the results of impact testing of 24 organic materials with liquid oxygen. In addition, nine of these same materials were tested with gaseous oxygen, and seven were tested with liquid nitrogen tetroxide. Pure polymers, plasticizers, and antioxidants were studied and their threshold sensitivity levels and detonation energies were determined. Procedures and equations for calibrating impact testing machines were developed and used to calculate the rates of energy transfer into test materials. A full record of test procedures id included." -- page iii
