Existence theorems for ordinary differential equations by Francis J Murray( Book )

28 editions published between 1954 and 2013 in English and Italian and held by 448 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This text surveys fundamental and general existence theorems as well as uniqueness theorems and Picard iterants, applying them to properties of solutions and linear differential equations. A basic knowledge of real function theory -- and for certain results, of elementary functions of a complex variable -- is assumed. 1954 edition
Applied mathematics : an intellectual orientation by Francis J Murray( Book )

12 editions published in 1978 in English and Undetermined and held by 401 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The primary objective of the course presented here is orientation for those interested in applying mathematics, but the course should also be of value or in using math to those interested in mathematical research and teaching ematics in some other professional context. The course should be suitable for college seniors and graduate students, as well as for college juniors who have had mathematics beyond the basic calculus sequence. Maturity is more significant than any formal prerequisite. The presentation involves a number of topics that are significant for applied mathematics but that normally do not appear in the curriculum or are depicted from an entirely different point of view. These topics include engineering simulations, the experience patterns of the exact sciences, the conceptual nature of pure mathematics and its relation to applied mathe matics, the historical development of mathematics, the associated conceptual aspects of the exact sciences, and the metaphysical implications of mathe matical scientific theories. We will associate topics in mathematics with areas of application. This presentation corresponds to a certain logical structure. But there is an enormous wealth of intellectual development available, and this permits considerable flexibility for the instructor in curricula and emphasis. The prime objective is to encourage the student to contact and utilize this rich heritage. Thus, the student's activity is critical, and it is also critical that this activity be precisely formulated and communicated

1 edition published in 2012 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

When Nige finds himself in a spot of bother after a series of unfortunate incidents, he is forced to ask Deano for help. The problem is Deano is not really the kind of guy you should turn to in a crisis. This film has got a lot of good bits. It's got bogans and penguins and toasted sandwiches. It's got a ginger cat and best mates. It's got a really little dolphin. It's got wicked t-shirts and hand brake skids. It's got sea lions. It's got a really cool lighthouse. And it's got Hamish Blake and Bret Mckenzie. The film follows Nige (Mckenzie) and his best mate Deano's (Blake) riotous misadventures as they struggle with their imploding long-term friendship which has been put under pressure by an unfortunate accident involving a hot meat pie, the quiet town of Invercargill and the untimely death of a Scandinavian soccer star. Nige chucks the dead body in a nearby road works hole and runs to Deano for help. Trouble is, Deano's not really the guy you should turn to in a crisis
