The materials end with the general management of Duke Gardens after Doris Duke's death in 1993 and the final dissolution of the Foundation in 2001. The Duke Family Papers (formerly DKFM) are part of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation Historical Archives which were donated to the Duke University Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. The collection spans the years 1885 to 1992, although the bulk of the material dates from the 1890s to the mid-1920s. The collection is arranged into five series: Correspondence, Financial Records, Legal Records, Miscellaneous Records, and the Divorce Proceedings of James B. Duke and Lillian McCredy Duke. The collection primarily documents James B. Duke's business and personal activities. The correspondence is a combination of business and personal letters, with many of the personal letters related to his philanthropy, such as requests from individuals for financial aid and other forms of assistance or favors, such as making investments and employment. Financial records include invoices and receipts for his businesses such as the British American Tobacco Company and the Raritan Power Co., and purchases for his Fifth Avenue mansion in New York City, Duke Farms in New Jersey, and other personal belongings such as furniture, clothing, and jewelry purchased by Nanaline Holt Inman Duke. The collection also documents the administration of the Estate of James B. Duke, including legal proceedings stemming from claims made against the estate after the will of James B. Duke had been executed. A quarter of the collection focuses on the divorce of J.B. Duke and his first wife Lillian McCredy Duke, including statements and affidavits of witnesses involved in the divorce proceedings. Miscellaneous records include a booklet tracing the Duke family geneaology and the Duke Name Project including incomplete names of Duke family members. The materials in this collection are arranged loosely in chronological order
Edward Featherston Small papers by Edward Featherston Small( )

Collection includes correspondence and writings by Edward Featherston Small. Collection contains letters of W. Duke, Sons and Company, including some from James B. Duke and George Watts, documenting Small's cigarette sales efforts in Atlanta, Ohio, and Memphis. One notable reference in the correspondence discusses Small's exchange with French actress Madame Rhea, who was performing in Atlanta. Rhea's billboard brought significant sales for Duke cigarettes. Also contains some clippings with references to The Cross Cuts, a polo club sponsored by W. Duke, Sons and Co. Small's literary manuscripts include several drafts and excerpts of an autobiographical work titled "Jeoffry Stark, the Tar Heel, or a Vaudeville Life of a Johnnie Reb," as well as drafts of an essay he wrote titled "A Correct Version of the Beginnings of the Trust." Another biographical sketch of Small was written by Small's daughter, B.D. Small. There is also a typescript memoir of the Civil War written by Small's wife, Julia Telfair Small, titled "A Leaf from the Old South." The collection also contains three photographs: one portrait of Small, and two related to his work in astronomy
