Interactive Particle Systems is a branch of Probability Theory with close connections to Mathematical Physics and Mathematical Biology. In 1985, the author wrote a book (T. Liggett, Interacting Particle System, ISBN 3-540-96069) that treated the subject as it was at that time. The present book takes three of the most important models in the area, and traces advances in our understanding of them since 1985. In so doing, many of the most useful techniques in the field are explained and developed, so that they can be applied to other models and in other contexts. Extensive Notes and References sections discuss other work on these and related models. Readers are expected to be familiar with analysis and probability at the graduate level, but it is not assumed that they have mastered the material in the 1985 book. This book is intended for graduate students and researchers in Probability Theory, and in related areas of Mathematics, Biology and Physics
Continuous time Markov processes : an introduction by Thomas M Liggett ( Book )
9 editions published in 2010 in English and held by 195 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Markov processes are among the most important stochastic processes for both theory and applications. This book develops the general theory of these processes and applies this theory to various special examples. The initial chapter is devoted to the most important classical example--one-dimensional Brownian motion. This, together with a chapter on continuous time Markov chains, provides the motivation for the general setup based on semigroups and generators. Chapters on stochastic calculus and probabilistic potential theory give an introduction to some of the key areas of application of Brownian motion and its relatives. A chapter on interacting particle systems treats a more recently developed class of Markov processes that have as their origin problems in physics and biology."--Publisher's description

Continuous Process for Producing Pelletized Nitrocellulose ( )
1 edition published in 1973 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
Pelletized nitrocellulose is a special form of nitrocellulose having a uniformity of size and shape that provides excellent formulation and processing characteristics. It has been prohibitively expensive for many applications in the past, but new manufacturing technology has reduced the cost drastically. The technology developed for continuously manufacturing pelletized nitrocellulose from a nitromethane-nitrocellulose lacquer, and the operation of the resulting pilot production system which has been installed and is operating at the Naval Ordnance Station, Indian Head, MD., are described. Environmental pollution has been virtually eliminated and improved product quality has been obtained. The cost of manufacturing pelletized nitrocellulose in quantity has been reduced to less than 25% of the conventional batch process costs

Pilot Plant Manufacture of Tetrakis(Dimethylamino) Ethylene at the Naval Ordnance Station, Indian Head, Maryland ( Book )
1 edition published in 1970 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
The Pruett Process was optimized at the Naval Ordnance Station, Indian Head, Maryland, by laboratory reaction, and it was employed on a modified basis in a pilot plant operation to produce 5000 pounds of tetrakis(dimethylamino)ethylene. The program took 13 months to conduct, including laboratory study, equipment installation, and processing. Techniques of pilot processing and modification are described. Initial costs approximated $40 per pound. Costs at the close of the program were close to $10 per pound. Projected costs are $3.36 per pound. Reductions in processing costs are attributable to recovery of reaction processing medium (DMA) and improved efficiency and method of operation. The product material was consistently produced in yields of greater than 60% while the purity generally ran 99.8%+. (Author)

Pelletized Nitrocellulose Manufacturing Process Product Fines Recovery. Phase I ( Book )
1 edition published in 1974 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
A study was made to determine a feasible method for removing pelletized nitrocellulose (PNC) fines from the PNC manufacturing process separation system filtrate purge. Fines removal is necessary to eliminate a source of environmental pollution and to reduce product losses. Laboratory experiments demonstrated that conventional pressure filtration, and also sand filtration, would be unsatisfactory. Pilot plant scale tests performed with a special high turbulence continuous filter were successful. Tests with a disc bowl cintrifuge also were successful. It is recommended that a modern solids ejecting disc bowl cintrifugal clarifier be installed for filtrate treatment because of its lower cost, intrinsic safety, and high effectiveness. (Author)
