Function spaces and applications : proceedings of the USSwedish seminar held in Lund, Sweden, June 1521, 1986 by
M Cwikel(
)
9 editions published in 1988 in English and Undetermined and held by 73 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This seminar is a loose continuation of two previous conferences held in Lund (1982, 1983), mainly devoted to interpolation spaces, which resulted in the publication of the Lecture Notes in Mathematics Vol. 1070. This explains the bias towards that subject. The idea this time was, however, to bring together mathematicians also from other related areas of analysis. To emphasize the historical roots of the subject, the collection is preceded by a lecture on the life of Marcel Riesz

U Kaljulaid(
Book
)
12 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 53 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Presents the English translation of Kaljulaid's 1979 Tartu/Minsk Candidate thesis. The thesis was devoted to representation theory in the spirit of his thesis advisor BI Plotkin. Through representation theory, Kaljulaid became also interested in automata theory, which at a later phase became his main area of interest

Analysis by
S. M Nikolʹskiĭ(
Book
)
2 editions published in 1991 in English and held by 33 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In the Part at hand the authors undertake to give a presentation of the historical development of the theory of imbedding of function spaces, of the internal as well as the externals motives which have stimulated it, and of the current state of art in the field, in particular, what regards the methods employed today. The impossibility to cover all the enormous material connected with these questions inevitably forced on us the necessity to restrict ourselves to a limited circle of ideas which are both fundamental and of principal interest. Of course, such a choice had to some extent have a subjective character, being in the first place dictated by the personal interests of the authors. Thus, the Part does not constitute a survey of all contemporary questions in the theory of imbedding of function spaces. Therefore also the bibliographical references given do not pretend to be exhaustive; we only list works mentioned in the text, and a more complete bibliography can be found in appropriate other monographs. O.V. Besov, v.1. Burenkov, P.1. Lizorkin and V.G. Maz'ya have graciously read the Part in manuscript form. All their critical remarks, for which the authors hereby express their sincere thanks, were taken account of in the final editing of the manuscript

Commutative harmonic analysis I : general survey, classical aspects by
Viktor Petrovich Khavin(
Book
)
2 editions published in 1992 in English and held by 32 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This EMS volume shows the great power provided by modern harmonic analysis, not only in mathematics, but also in mathematical physics and engineering. Aimed at a reader who has learned the principles of harmonic analysis, this book is intended to provide a variety of perspectives on this important classical subject. The authors have written an outstanding book which distinguishes itself by the authors' excellent expository style. It can be useful for the expert in one area of harmonic analysis who wishes to obtain broader knowledge of other aspects of the subject and also by graduate students in other areas of mathematics who wish a general but rigorous introduction to the subject

Treatise on the shift operator : spectral function theory by
N. K Nikolʹskiĭ(
Book
)
2 editions published in 1986 in English and held by 27 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This book is an elementary introduction to nonclassical spectral theory. Mter the basic definitions and a reduction to the study of the functional model the discussion will be centered around the simplest variant of such a model which, formally speaking, comprises only the class of contraction operators with a one dimensional rank of nonunitarity (rank(I T*T) = rank(I TT*) = 1). The main emphasis is on the technical side of the subject, the book being mostly devoted to a development of the analytical machinery of spectral theory rather than to this discipline itself. The functional model of Sz.Nagy and Foia{sect} re duces the study of general operators to an investigation of the . compression T=PSIK of the shift operator S, Sf = zf, onto coinvariant subspaces (i. e. subspaces in variant with respect to the adjoint shift S*). In the main body of the book (the "Lectures" in the proper meaning of the word) this operator acts on the Hardy space H2 and is itself a part of the operator of multiplication by the independent variable in the space L2 (in the case at hand L2 means L2(lf), If being the unit circle), this operator again being fundamental for classical spectral theory
