New theory of the Earth by Don L Anderson( Book )

17 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 593 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"New Theory of the Earth is an interdisciplinary advanced textbook on the origin, composition, and evolution of the Earth's interior: geophysics, geochemistry, dynamics, convection, mineralogy, volcanism, energetics, and thermal history. This is the only book on the whole landscape of deep Earth processes that ties together all the strands of the subdisciplines. It is a complete update of Anderson's Theory of the Earth (1989). It includes many new sections and dozens of new figures and tables. As with the original book, this new edition will prove to be a stimulating textbook for advanced courses in geophysics, geochemistry, and planetary science, and a supplementary textbook on a wide range of other advanced Earth science courses. It will also be an essential reference and resource for all researchers in the solid Earth sciences."--BOOK JACKET

The interdisciplinary earth : a volume in honor of Don L. Anderson( Book )

5 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 188 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This volume is a memorial to Don L. Anderson, former director of the Seismological Laboratory of the Caltech Institute of Technology, recipient of the Crafoord Prize, the National Medal of Honor, and numerous other awards. A geophysicist extraordinaire, he contributed much to our understanding of the structure and dynamics of the interior of Earth. The book, comprised largely of chapters written at Anderson's invitation, reflects his interdisciplinary career. It includes papers on anisotropy, the seismic structure of the mantle, mantle convection, the statistics of melting anomalies, planetary geology, tectonics, the thermal budget of Earth, lithospheric structure, geochemistry, and flood basalts."--Publisher's description
Lateral heterogeneity and azimuthal anisotropy of the upper mantle : Love and Rayleigh waves 100-250 sec by Toshiro Tanimoto( Book )

Surface wave tomography by Don L Anderson( Book )

2 editions published in 1983 in English and held by 60 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Vertically polarized shear wave velocity (VSV), determined primarily from fundamental mode Rayleigh waves, and the difference between the velocity of horizontally polarized shear waves (VSH) and VSV, therefore a measure of anisotropy, are shown."--NTIS abstract
Fundamental physics and chemistry by National Research Council (U.S.)( Book )

1 edition published in 1988 in English and held by 57 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Early in 1984, NASA asked the Space Science Board to undertake a study to determine the principal scientific issues that the disciplines of space science would face during the period from about 1995 to 2015. The findings of this study are published in this volume

A study of some properties of sea ice by Don L Anderson( Book )

5 editions published in 1961 in English and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

IT IS POSSIBLE TO DETERMINE THE PHASE RELATIONS IN SEA ICE FROM ION CONCENTRATION MEASUREMENTS ON THE UNFROZEN BRINE. From the composition and structure such physical properties as strength, thermal conductivit and permeability may be calculated. All of the physical properties of sea ice change rapidly after freezing begins until the temperature of the ice is about -5 C. The anomalous behavior of strength, density, coefficient of volume expansion, specific heat, latent heat, and conductivity can be explained by the continuous phase changes taking place at all temperatures. The heat of crystallization of solid salts is found to be small but not negligible in comparison with other thermal effects. (Author)

Seismic phenomena connected with earthquakes and explosions by Don L Anderson( Book )

5 editions published between 1969 and 1973 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The research accomplishments during the past reporting period are given in a series of abstracts included in the report Particular emphasis has been placed on the development of source theory and its incorporation into the calculation of synthetic seismograms in the frequency domain. These techniques were used in the first half of the reporting period to determine theoretical M(S) distance corrections; the effect of tectonic regions on the body wave spectra of explosions, and in the evaluation of long period discriminants. This work is being continued and was used to determine the source parameters structure, and attenuation properties of the crust and upper mantle. An improved monopole model of the earth's radial velocity and density variation was obtained by including differential travel times in the set of gross earth data used in the inversion algorithm. Research in seismic phenomena connected with earthquakes and explosions : annual report, 31 October 1966-1 November 1967 by California Institute of Technology( Book )

4 editions published between 1967 and 1969 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The structure of the crust and upper mantle in the Western United States has been intensively studied by refraction and reflection techniques. Strong lateral variations have been found which correlate well with gravity, heat flow, P-delay, and other geophysical data. A method has been developed for analyzing high pressure shock wave data in order to make direct comparisons with seismic data. The lower mantle is clearly enriched in iron compared to the upper mantle. Theoretical work for wave propagation in inhomogeneous media has provided a number of results in diffraction theory which are important in determining the nature of the Earth's core mantle boundary. Studies of the static strains and tilts using appropriate source models in media with decoupling or soft zones indicate that the observations of large tilts accompanying some earthquakes may be the result of block decoupling phenomena in the western part of the Continent.
