François Fournier is a troubled ten-year-old who has been in foster care since he was four. But his is a "temporary placement," meaning that his parents can come back for him any time. They never do. The story begins with François being shuffled from one foster home to another, as his insecurity leads him to engage in increasingly destructive behavior. He is placed with an older couple named Thierry, the newest addition to a ménage that includes Mrs. Thierry's mother, a very young girl, and a high-school age boy. They aren't afraid to share their lives with this new houseguest, and the impressionable boy seems to be settling down. For François, things just are what they are--and he's usually "temporary." A fascinating portrait of childhood, which is also an indictment of a failing social system

Intégrale Jacques Demy by Jacques Tati( Visual )

This time it's lust, as seen through the eyes of a young boy who's driven by Bosch's paintings to imagine that dreaming about sexy women leads to fiery hell."--Mondo Digital website, viewed 8 February 2010
Maurice Pialat by Marja Warehime( Book )

1 edition published in 2006 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The power of Pialat's realism has often overshadowed his formal originality and this study gives equal attention to formal issues, including the crucial role of montage in the elaboration of his filmic narratives." "The author provides a brief biographical sketch of the filmmaker, situating Pialat's work in relation to the New Wave and the popular Saturday night cinema of his childhood, as well as giving an overview of the major themes and formal preoccupations of his work. Subsequent chapters provide readings of each of his full-length films. The resulting volume is essential to any collection on French film and makes a valuable contribution to the broader field of French studies."--Jacket
