While Scott's expedition is based in New Zealand awaiting to shipoff to Antarctica there is trouble already in the ranks, with problems occurring with the horses. Once at sea the Terra Nova encounters pack ice which delays their journey. Amundsen, meanwhile, is making quicker progress. When the British stumble across the Norwegian ship, there is a guarded exchange of greetings before the two teams set off across the ice flows toward the South Pole
