Mathematical aspects of classical and celestial mechanics by V. I Arnolʹd( Book )

46 editions published between 1988 and 2009 in English and German and held by 393 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Describes the fundamental principles, problems, and methods of classical mechanics. This book devotes its attention to the mathematical side of the subject. It aims to acquaint the reader with classical mechanics as a whole, in both its classical and its contemporary aspects
Symmetries, topology, and resonances in Hamiltonian mechanics by V. V Kozlov( Book )

16 editions published between 1995 and 2012 in English and Italian and held by 58 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

John Hornstein has written about the author's theorem on nonintegrability of geodesic flows on closed surfaces of genus greater than one: "Here is an example of how differential geometry, differential and algebraic topology, and Newton's laws make music together" (Amer. Math. Monthly, November 1989). Kozlov's book is a systematic introduction to the problem of exact integration of equations of dynamics. The key to the solution is to find nontrivial symmetries of Hamiltonian systems. After Poincaré's work it became clear that topological considerations and the analysis of resonance phenomena play a crucial role in the problem on the existence of symmetry fields and nontrivial conservation laws
Asymptotic solutions of strongly nonlinear systems of differential equations by V. V Kozlov( Book )

12 editions published between 2011 and 2013 in English and held by 57 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The book is dedicated to the construction of particular solutions of systems of ordinary differential equations in the form of series that are analogous to those used in Lyapunov's first method. A prominent place is given to asymptotic solutions that tend to an equilibrium position, especially in the strongly nonlinear case, where the existence of such solutions can't be inferred on the basis of the first approximation alone. The book is illustrated with a large number of concrete examples of systems in which the presence of a particular solution of a certain class is related to special properties of the system's dynamic behavior. It is a book for students and specialists who work with dynamical systems in the fields of mechanics, mathematics, and theoretical physics."--Publisher's website

Mathematical Aspects of Classical and Celestial Mechanics. Encyclopaedia of Mathematical Sciences, Volume 3 : Dynamical Systems( )

1 edition published in 2006 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This work describes the fundamental principles, problems, and methods of classical mechanics. The main attention is devoted to the mathematical side of the subject. The authors have endeavored to give an exposition stressing the working apparatus of classical mechanics. The book is significantly expanded compared to the previous edition. The authors have added two chapters on the variational principles and methods of classical mechanics as well as on tensor invariants of equations of dynamics. Moreover, various other sections have been revised, added or expanded. The main purpose of the book is to acquaint the reader with classical mechanics as a whole, in both its classical and its contemporary aspects. The book addresses all mathematicians, physicists and engineers. From the reviews of the previous editions: " ... The book accomplishes the goals it has set for itself. While it is not an introduction to the field, it is an excellent overview ..." "American Mathematical Monthly", November 1989
Traffic and granular flow '11 by V. V Kozlov( )

1 edition published in 2013 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book continues the biannual series of conference proceedings, which has become a classical reference resource in traffic and granular research alike. It addresses new developments at the interface between physics, engineering and computational science. Complex systems, where many simple agents, be they vehicles or particles, give rise to surprising and fascinating phenomena. The contributions collected in these proceedings cover several research fields, all of which deal with transport. Topics include highway, pedestrian and internet traffic, granular matter, biological transport, transport networks, data acquisition, data analysis and technological applications. Different perspectives, i.e. modeling, simulations, experiments and phenomenological observations, are considered
