Lie algebras of finite and affine type by
Roger W Carter(
Book
)
14 editions published between 2005 and 2007 in English and held by 284 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Lie algebras have many varied applications, both in mathematics and mathematical physics. This book provides a thorough but relaxed mathematical treatment of the subject, including both the CartanKillingWeyl theory of finite dimensional simple algebras and the more modern theory of KacMoody algebras. Proofs are given in detail and the only prerequisite is a sound knowledge of linear algebra. The first half of the book deals with classification of the finite dimensional simple Lie algebras and of their finite dimensional irreducible representations. The second half introduces the theory of KacMoody algebras, concentrating particularly on those of affine type. A brief account of Borcherds algebras is also included. An Appendix gives a summary of the basic properties of each Lie algebra of finite and affine type

15 editions published between 1998 and 2010 in English and held by 244 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The representation theory of reductive algebraic groups and related finite reductive groups is a subject of great topical interest and has many applications. The articles in this volume provide introductions to various aspects of the subject, including algebraic groups and Lie algebras, reflection groups, abelian and derived categories, the DeligneLusztig representation theory of finite reductive groups, HarishChandra theory and its generalisations, quantum groups, subgroup structure of algebraic groups, intersection cohomology, and Lusztig's conjectured character formula for irreducible representations in prime characteristic

Algebraic groups and their representations by
Roger W Carter(
Book
)
8 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 113 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This volume contains articles by 20 leading workers in the field of algebraic groups and related finite groups. Articles on representation theory are written by Andersen on tilting modules, Carter on canonical bases, Cline, Parshall and Scott on endomorphism algebras, James and Kleshchev on the symmetric group, Littelmann on the path model, Lusztig on homology bases, McNinch on semisimplicity in prime characteristic, Robinson on block theory, Scott on Lusztig's character formula, and Tanisaki on highest weight modules. Articles on subgroup structure are written by Seitz and Brundan on double cosets, Liebeck on exceptional groups, Saxl on subgroups containing special elements, and Guralnick on applications of subgroup structure. Steinberg gives a new, short proof of the isomorphism and isogeny theorems for reductive groups. Aschbacher discusses the classification of quasithin groups and Borovik the classification of groups of finite Morley rank. Audience: The book contains accounts of many recent advances and will interest research workers and students in the theory of algebraic groups and related areas of mathematics
