Max Fabiani (1865-1962) war einer der wichtigsten Stadtplaner und Architekten der österreichisch-ungarischen Monarchie um die Jahrhundertwende (1900), renommierter Professor an der Technischen Universität Wien, Kunstberater und persönlicher Freund des habsburgischen Thronfolgers Franz Ferdinand. Wenn man alle seine Arbeiten sehen möchte, dann müsste man einen sehr langen Weg von Polen nach Wien, Opatija, Triest und Venedig einplanen. Nach dem Erdbeben von 1895 war er im Auftrag des Laibacher Bürgermeisters Ivan Hribar für die Stadtereneuerung verantwortlich. Fabiani wurde die Planung einiger Jugendstil-Bauten, die heute zu den schönsten gehören, anvertraut. Am Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs kehrte der Architekt zurück nach Hause, wo er sich mit der Renovierung der zerstörten Gebiete im Slowenischen Küstenland, in Görz/Gorizia und am Karst beschäftigte. Die meisten seiner Arbeiten widmete er seinen Heimatort Štanjel, wo er u. a. Villa Ferrari plante und eine Gartenparkanlage anlegte. Die Fotografien im Buch stammen von Miran Kambic
