"Le vicende dei Tà meth'Hómeron, il "seguito" dell'Iliade, erano state la materia, in età arcaica, del cosiddetto 'ciclo epico', una serie di poemi che narravano il mito troiano, dagli antefatti fino ai discendenti dei grandi protagonisti della guerra. Tali poemi, probabilmente, non si leggevano più già ai tempi di Quinto di Smirne. Egli volle così colmare una lacuna, prendendo Omero a maestro dal punto di vista della lingua e dello stile. Ma lo spirito di un'epoca diversa non poteva non penetrare nella sua opera. I personaggi, più drammatici e psicologicamente delineati, si mostrano al lettore nelle loro passioni e nei loro dubbi, nell'odio e nell'amore, e soprattutto nelle loro coscienze: dall'infelice amazzone Pentesilea al gigante etiope Memnone, dall'Aiace impazzito al temerario Euripilo, dal violento Neottolemo alla passionale Enone. Un'epica tradizionale ma diversa, affascinante per molti versi: l'unico poema antico rimastoci che narri questa sezione del mito, e che è stato a lungo ingiustamente dimenticato. Se ne propone ora la prima traduzione italiana integrale e disponibile anche al grande pubblico." (source : éditeur)
