Probability in Banach spaces : isoperimetry and processes by Michel Ledoux( Book )

31 editions published between 1991 and 2012 in English and held by 456 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Isoperimetric, measure concentration and random process techniques appear at the basis of the modern understanding of Probability in Banach spaces. Based on these tools, the book presents a complete treatment of the main aspects of Probability in Banach spaces (integrability and limit theorems for vector valued random variables, boundedness and continuity of random processes) and of some of their links to Geometry of Banach spaces (via the type and cotype properties). Its purpose is to present some of the main aspects of this theory, from the foundations to the most important achievements. The main features of the investigation are the systematic use of isoperimetry and concentration of measure and abstract random process techniques (entropy and majorizing measures). Examples of these probabilistic tools and ideas to classical Banach space theory are further developed
Spin glasses : a challenge for mathematicians : cavity and mean field models by Michel Talagrand( Book )

12 editions published between 2003 and 2010 in English and held by 300 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Lectures on probability theory and statistics : Ecole d'Eté de Probabilités de Saint-Flour XXXII-2002 by Boris Tsirelson( Book )

20 editions published in 2003 in English and German and held by 259 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In World Mathematical Year 2000 the traditional St. Flour Summer School was hosted jointly with the European Mathematical Society. Sergio Albeverio reviews the theory of Dirichlet forms, and gives applications including partial differential equations, stochastic dynamics of quantum systems, quantum fields and the geometry of loop spaces. The second text, by Walter Schachermayer, is an introduction to the basic concepts of mathematical finance, including the Bachelier and Black-Scholes models. The fundamental theorem of asset pricing is discussed in detail. Finally Michel Talagrand, gives an overview of the mean field models for spin glasses. This text is a major contribution towards the proof of certain results from physics, and includes a discussion of the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick and the p-spin interaction models
Pettis integral and measure theory by Michel Talagrand( Book )

12 editions published between 1984 and 1986 in English and held by 259 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The generic chaining : upper and lower bounds of stochastic processes by Michel Talagrand( Book )

19 editions published between 2005 and 2010 in English and held by 244 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The fundamental question of characterizing continuity and boundedness of Gaussian processes goes back to Kolmogorov. After essential contributions by R. Dudley and X. Fernique, it was solved by the author in 1985. This advance was followed by a great improvement of our understanding of the boundedness of other fundamental classes of processes (empirical processes, infinitely divisible processes, etc.) This challenging body of work has now been considerably simplified through the notion of "generic chaining", a completely natural variation on the ideas of Kolmogorov
High dimensional probability by Ernst Eberlein( Book )

9 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 182 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

What is high dimensional probability? Under this broad term one finds a collection of topics associated by the fact that ñ plays a key role in each, whether the idea of high dimension ñ is expressed in the problem or in the methods by which it is approached. For example, the study of probability in Banach spaces gave impetus to a number of methods whose importance has gone far beyond the original goal of extending limit laws to the vector valued case. Familiar applications are in the areas of empirical processes, the use of majorizing measures to study regularity of stochastic processes, and the theory of concentration of measure. Many of the new ideas, results and directions of this newly evolving field were explored on a broad front at the Conference on High Dimensional Probability held at Oberwolfach in August 1996. The papers in this volume are marked by vitality and diversity and will give researchers and graduate students in probability or statistics much to whet their interest
Upper and lower bounds for stochastic processes : modern methods and classical problems by Michel Talagrand( Book )

20 editions published between 2004 and 2016 in 3 languages and held by 153 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The book develops modern methods and in particular the "generic chaining" to bound stochastic processes. This methods allows in particular to get optimal bounds for Gaussian and Bernoulli processes. Applications are given to stable processes, infinitely divisible processes, matching theorems, the convergence of random Fourier series, of orthogonal series, and to functional analysis. The complete solution of a number of classical problems is given in complete detail, and an ambitious program for future research is laid out

Mean field models for spin glasses. advanced replica-symmetry and low temperature by Michel Talagrand( Book )

20 editions published between 2011 and 2013 in English and held by 67 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is a new, completely revised, updated and enlarged edition of the author's Ergebnisse vol. 46: "Spin Glasses: A Challenge for Mathematicians" in two volumes (this is the 2nd volume). In the eighties, a group of theoretical physicists introduced several models for certain disordered systems, called "spin glasses". These models are simple and rather canonical random structures, of considerable interest for several branches of science (statistical physics, neural networks and computer science). The physicists studied them by non-rigorous methods and predicted spectacular behaviors. This book introduces in a rigorous manner this exciting new area to the mathematically minded reader. It requires no knowledge whatsoever of any physics. The present Volume II contains a considerable amount of new material, in particular all the fundamental low-temperature results obtained after the publication of the first edition

This is a new, completely revised, updated and enlarged edition of the author's Ergebnisse vol. 46: "Spin Glasses: A Challenge for Mathematicians". This new edition will appear in two volumes, the present first volume presents the basic results and methods, the second volume is expected to appear in 2011. The physicists studied them by non-rigorous methods and predicted spectacular behaviors. This book introduces in a rigorous manner this exciting new area to the mathematically minded reader. It requires no knowledge whatsoever of any physics. The first volume of this new and completely rewritten edition presents six fundamental models and the basic techniques to study them
