On the theory of oscillating airfoils of finite span in subsonic compressible flow by Eric Reissner ( Book )
7 editions published between 1949 and 1950 in English and held by 11 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The problem of the oscillating lifting surface of finite span in subsonic compressible flow is reduced to an integral equation, which is approximated by a simpler expression, on the basis of the assumption of sufficiently large aspect ratio. Thus the double integral occurring in the formulation of the problem is reduced to two single integrals, one of which is taken over the chord and the other over the span of the lifting surface. By this reduction the three dimensional problem appears separated into two two-dimensional problems, one being effectively the problem of two-dimensional flow and the other the problem of spanwise-circulation distribution
Small bending and stretching of sandwich-type shells by Eric Reissner ( Book )
7 editions published between 1949 and 1950 in English and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
A theory is developed for small bending and stretching of sandwich-type shells. This theory is an extension of the known theory of homogeneous thin elastic shells. It is found that two effects are important in the present problem, which have not been considered previously in the theory of curved shells: (1) The effect of transverse shear deformation and (2) the effect of transverse normal stress deformation

Torsion and transverse bending of cantilever plates by Eric Reissner ( Book )
3 editions published in 1951 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The problem of combined bending and torsion of cantilever plates of variable thickness, such as might be considered for solid thin high-speed airplane or missile wings, is considered. The deflections of the plate are assumed to vary linearly across the chord; minimization of the potential energy by means of the calculus of variations then leads to two ordinary linear differential equations for the bending deflections and the twist of the plate. Because the cantilever is analyzed as a plate rather than as a beam, the effect of constraint against axial warping in torsion is inherently included. The application of this method to specific problems involving static deflection, vibration, and buckling of cantilever plates is presented. In the static-deflection problems, taper and sweep are considered
Extension of the theory of oscillating airfoils of finite span in subsonic compressible flow by Eric Reissner ( Book )
3 editions published in 1951 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
As part of an investigation of flows around and forces on an oscillating finite wing in subsonic compressible flow, the exact double integrals occurring in the theoretical formulation of the three-dimensional nonstationary aerodynamic forces have previously been reduced to single integrals over the range of either one of the two independent variables. The present report describes a method for solving the resultant three-dimensional problem based on a generalization of approximate methods for solving two-dimensional problems. It is shown that the calculation of three-dimensional corrections to the two-dimensional integral equation for spanwise variation of circulation, provided tabulated values for the kernal of the integral equation are available
Least-work analysis of the problem of shear lag in box beams by Francis Begnaud Hildebrand ( Book )
2 editions published in 1943 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The distribution of stress in the cover sheets of thin-wall box beams is analyzed, with regard to the effect of shear deformation in the cover sheets, by the method of least work
The Influence of the aerodynamic span effect on the magnitude of the torsional-divergence velocity and on the shape of the corresponding deflection mode by Francis Begnaud Hildebrand ( Book )
3 editions published in 1944 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The explicit solutions obtained in several cases indicate that the aerodynamic span effect may increase the divergence velocities found by means of the section-force theory by as much as 17 to 40 percent
