Zephyrus provides a biographical sketch about the English physician Edward Jenner (1749-1823). In 1796, Jenner developed a vaccine for smallpox. Jenner discovered the vaccine by inoculating those with smallpox with cowpox, which gave immunity to smallpox. Jenner published his findings in the 1798 publication "An Inquiry into the Causes and Effects of the Variolae Vaccinae, a Disease Known by the Name of Cow Pox."
