In general, dates represented in the collection range from August, 1666, to the late nineteenth century. Copies of several letters of 1664 and 1665 are included and there are occasional letters and copies of wills through November, 1959. Subject matter of the papers relates to the activities and interests of the Stevens family of New Jersey in that colony and state, and in New York City and Philadelphia. Papers of the Hoboken Land and Improvement Co., a family corporation in New Jersey, are organized and filmed separately, though an integral part of the Stevens family papers, they cover roughly the years from 1839-1939
