The fall of Che Guevara a story of soldiers, spies, and diplomats by Henry Butterfield Ryan ( )
11 editions published between 1998 and 1999 in English and held by 1,144 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The Fall of Che Guevara tells the story of Guevara's last campaign, in the backwoods of Bolivia, where he hoped to ignite a revolution that would spread throughout South America. For the first time, this book shows in detail the strategy of the USA and Bolivian governments to foil his efforts. Based on numerous interviews and on secret documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act from the CIA, the State Department, the Pentagon, and the National Security Archive, this work casts new light on the roles of a Green Beret detachment sent to train the Bolivians and of the CIA and other US agencies in bringing Guevara down. Ryan shows that Guevara was an agent of Cuban foreign policy from the time he met Fidel Castro in 1955 until his death-not a mere independent revolutionary, as many scholars have claimed. Guevara's attempted insurgency in Bolivia was in reality a Cuban attempt to achieve another badly-needed revolutionary success. This dramatic account of the last days of Che Guevara will appeal to scholars and students of United States foreign policy and Latin American history, and to all those interested in this revolutionary's remarkable life

The fall of Che Guevara a story of soldiers, spies, and diplomats by Henry Butterfield Ryan ( )
9 editions published between 1998 and 2007 in English and held by 168 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Tells the story, for the first time, of the United States government's response to Guevara's ill-starred insurgency in Bolivia in 1967. Henry Butterfield Ryan argues that Guevara's life must be re-evaluated in light of secret documents only recently released by the CIA, the State Department, the Pentagon, and the National Security Council
The complete Bolivian diaries of Ché Guevara, and other captured documents by Daniel James ( Book )
2 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 124 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"This edition of the Bolivian diaries of Ernesto Che Guevara (1928-1967) - the legendary revolutionary who participated in insurgent communist movements in Cuba, the Congo, and Bolivia - also contains the journals of his closest lieutenants, as well as other documents chronicling Guevara's doomed Bolivian campaign (January 1966 - October 1967)." "The diaries themselves offer a day-to-day glimpse into the conflicts he had with Castro, the political and logistical difficulties of waging a guerrilla campaign, and the larger philosophical dilemmas he faced as he balanced the competing interests of Castro and the Soviet Union with his own revolutionary goals." "Che's execution and the controversial history of the diaries themselves sparked international interest and debate. Che's Bolivian diaries, illustrated with 32 pages of rare photographs, including many taken by Guevara and his guerrillas, remain as intriguing and unforgettable as when Che first wrote them."--Jacket
