The promptbook is an annotated libretto by Boosey, London (1883) in English, with interleaved pages of manuscript stage directions. The English text is by Farnie. The dialogue parts are all in German. All are manuscript except for three parts which are mimeoed. Several parts carry pereformers' names and one set bears the stamp of the Deutsches Theater. The lyrics are in German, printed by Bote & Bock, Berlin (1869). The German is by Carl Treumann

Remaining promptbooks are in English and include typed copies (one for the "condensed version" and one which is incomplete), manuscript copies (one of which is the "property of Chas. A. Tyrell"), and many versions based on a published libretto pasted into a ledger with manuscript or typed stage directions and other annotations. Among the latter is one bearing the signature stamp of Arthur Bell, one which is the "property of Max Figman", one labelled "Ditson Ed., Property of Fred Solomon," which includes folded scene drawings bound in, and one labelled "Hess version."
