Jacob Platt Fort (1818-1893), American Minister, was born at Pemberton, New Jersey on February 20, 1818. His brother, George, also a minister, was governor of New Jersey from 1851 to 1854. Jacob pastored 21 New Jersey churches in 44 years, and wrote an autobiography, which included correspondence, that deals with his ministry and sheds light on his brother's career, and on the social and political conditions of their time

Franklin, first as Governor of New Jersey and then after having resumed his medical practice, as a an active citizen in his local community. The collection consists primarily of certificates and commissions, including his certificate of election as Governor of New Jersey and the commissions he received after serving in that office. Also included in the collection are his diplomas from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and from the Medical Society of New Jersey. Documents in this collection were signed by Thomas S.
