BIG zurtick In einem alten Lehrbuch 1) der organischen Chemie lesen wir dar tiber: "Man bezeichnet als Radikale nach LIEBIG Atomgruppen, welche die Rol le von Elementen spielen, sich wie diese mit Elementen und untereinander ver einigen k6nnen und von einer Verbindung durch Austausch in andere tibertra gen lassen". Freie Radikale wurden zum ersten Mal in die Betrachtung mit ein bezogen, nachdem GOMBERG (46)2) urn die lahrhundertwende beobachtet hatte, daB Triphenylmethyl ein chemisch stabiles System ist. Einfachere Radikale, wie z. R CH , CH und CH, sind jedoch extrem kurzlebige Spezies, die schwer 3 2 herzustellen und im freien Zustand zu beobachten sind. Since the publication in 1950 of Vol. I, Spectra of Diatomic Molecules of Molecular Spectra and Molecular Structure, much progress has been made in the field. While there have been some important refinements in the theory of diatomic molecular spectra, most of the advances have been in the further exploration of individual spectra. Not only has the number of molecules about which some spectroscopic data are available been increased by a factor of 2 to 3, but also the spectroscopic information about the molecules known in 1950 has been vastly extended. This is due to the observation of new elec tronic states (about three times as many as known before), the enormous improvements in the accuracy of the constants of the states known in 1950, and the determination of higher order constants. In view of the increasing use of spectroscopic information on diatomic molecules in other fields of physics, in chemistry, and in astrophysics, it appeared desirable to prepare an up-to-date version of the table of molecular constants in the appendix of Vol. I. This updating proved to be far more time-consuming than originally anticipated, and it is only now, 10 years that we are able to present such a table, which, instead after its initiation, of the original 80 pages (plus 30 pages of bibliography), now fills a volume of 700 pages. In the interest of economy, and unlike the original version, the new table has been produced by photo-offset from the final manuscript

Les douleurs qui en résultent peuvent être très invalidantes et affaiblir ou altérer les préhensions. Les avancées biomécaniques et thérapeutiques ont été importantes au cours des cinq dernières années. Grâce aux progrès technologiques, les travaux biomécaniques s'effectuent maintenant in vivo ce qui change radicalement leur portée. Les séries cliniques s'étoffent au fil des années. Le point de vue du rhumatologue et les progrès du traitement médical seront exposés. Sur le plan chirurgical, outre l'affinage progressif des traitements classiques, les progrès récents de l'arthroscopie et des prothèses changent l'approche des indications et du traitement de l'arthrose péri-scaphoïdienne. Il nous a paru important de faire le point de la question et nous remercions tous les auteurs qui ont participé à cet ouvrage, notamment le Professeur Steven Viegas de Galveston (USA), notre invité d'honneur, dont les travaux anatomiques et biomécaniques sur le poignet font référence. Il est aussi membre du staff médical responsable du suivi de la pathologie des astronautes de la base de Houston ; il nous fait l'amitié de nous faire partager ses connaissances dans le domaine totalement vierge de la pathologie du Membre Supérieur des astronautes. Qu'il en soit vivement remercié, ainsi que tous les auteurs des chapitres de cet ouvrage qui résume les travaux d'une journée consacrée exclusivement au sujet, sous l'égide de la Société Française de Chirurgie de la Main et sous la Présidence d'Honneur du Professeur Jean-Jacques Comtet.
