Mathematical theory of finite and boundary element methods by
Alfred H Schatz(
Book
)
16 editions published in 1990 in English and German and held by 242 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
These are the lecture notes of the seminar "Mathematische Theorie der finiten Element und Randelementmethoden" organized by the "Deutsche MathematikerVereinigung" and held in Düsseldorf from June 7th 14th 1987. Finite element methods nowadays belong to the standard routines for the computation of solutions to boundary and initial boundary value problems of partial differential equations with many applications as e.g. in elasticity and thermoelasticity, fluid mechanics, acoustics, electromagnetics, scattering and diffusion. These methods also stimulated the development of corresponding mathematical numerical analysis. The seminar as well as these notes consist of three parts: I. An Analysis of the Finite Element Method for Second Order Elliptic Boundary Value Problems by A.H. Schatz II. On Finite Elements for Parabolic Problems by V. Thomée III. Boundary Element Methods for Elliptic Problems by W.L. Wendland. As a valuable addition to the standard literature in this field, these notes provide an introduction and overview of the three different topics which shed light on recent research

"This book is devoted to the basic mathematical properties of solutions to boundary integral equations and presents a systematic approach to the variational methods for the boundary integral equations arising in elasticity, fluid mechanics, and acoustic scattering theory. It may also serve as the mathematical foundation of the boundary element methods. The latter have recently become extremely popular and efficient computational tools in applications. The authors are well known for their fundamental work on boundary integral equations and related topics, This book is a major scholarly contribution to the modern theory of boundary integral equations and should be accessible and useful to a large community of mathematical analysts, applied mathematicians, engineers and scientists."Jacket

Finite element and boundary element techniques from mathematical and engineering point of view by
Erwin Stein(
Book
)
9 editions published in 1988 in English and held by 153 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Traditional FEM and the more recent BEM underlie many engineering computational methods and corresponding software. Both methods have their merits and also their limitations. The combination of both methods will provide an improved numerical tool in the future. The aim of this book is to present significant basic formulations of FEM and BEM and to show their common practical and mathematical foundations, their differences and possibilities for their combination. These include variational foundations, FEM and BEM for linear and nonlinear elasticity and potential problems, the combination of FEMBEM asymptotic error analysis, modifications due to corner and crack singularities and corresponding improvement of convergence, plastic analysis, numerical algorithms and engineering applications

Multifield problems : state of the art(
Book
)
7 editions published between 2000 and 2011 in English and held by 119 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The simulation of complex engineering problems often involves an interaction or coupling of individual phenomena, which are traditionally related by themselves to seperate fields of applied mechanics. Typical examples of these socalled multifield problems are the thermomechanical analysis of solids with coupling between mechanical stress analysis and thermal heat transfer processes, the simulation of coupled deformation and fluid transport mechanisms in porous media, the prediction of mass transprot and phase transition phenomena of mixtures, the analysis of sedimentation processes based on an interaction of particle dynamics and viscous flow, the simulation of multibody systems and fluidstructure interactions based on solidtosolid and solidtofluid contact mechanisms

Analysis and simulation of multifield problems by International Conference on Multifield Problems(
Book
)
8 editions published between 2003 and 2011 in English and held by 71 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The analysis and simulation of multifield problems have recently become one of the most actual and vivid areas of research. Although the individual subproblems of complex technical and physical phenomena often are understood separately, their interaction and coupling create not only new difficulties but also a complete new level and quality of interacting coupled field problems. Presented by leading experts this book includes recent results in these fields from the International Conference on Multifield Problems, April 810, 2002 at the University of Stuttgart, Germany

IABEM Symposium on Boundary Integral Methods for Nonlinear Problems : proceedings of the IABEM symposium held in Pontignano,
Italy, May 28June 3, 1995 by
L Morino(
Book
)
7 editions published in 1997 in English and held by 41 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This volume is a collection of papers presented at the IABEM International Symposium on Boundary Integral Methods for Nonlinear Problems, held at Pontignano (Siena, Italy) on May 28June 3, 1995 and cosponsored by IUTAM. The symposium was organized with the intention of creating an opportunity for mathematicians and engineers working on nonlinear problems to communicate with each other and exchange experiences in the use of boundary integral methods. The spirit of the symposium is clearly reflected in the papers collected in the volume. Some mathematical issues of boundary integral methods for the solution of nonlinear problems are examined in depth. In addition, several applications to fluid and solid mechanics and heat transfer problems are presented. Within the vast literature on boundary integral methods, this volume is probably the first dedicated specifically to nonlinear aspects. It gives the reader a wide overview of the broad class of applications where boundary integral methods represent a very appealing tool for the analysis of nonlinear problems
