Fractals everywhere by M. F Barnsley ( Book )
65 editions published between 1988 and 2012 in English and Undetermined and held by 2,715 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"This book is based on a course called 'Fractal Geometry' which has been taught in the School of Mathematics at Georgia Institute of Technology for two years. 'Fractals Everywhere' teaches the tools, methods, and theory of deterministic geometry. Ti is useful for describing specific objects and structures. Models are represented by succint 'formulas.' Once the formula is known, the model can be reproduced. we do not consider statistical geometry. The latter aims at discovering general statistical laws which govern families of similar-looking structures, such as all cumulus clouds, all maple leaves, or all mountains. In deterministic geometry, structures are defined, communicated, and analysed, with the aid of elementary transformations such as affine transformations, scalings, rotations, and congruences. A fractal set generally contains infinitely many points whose organization is so complicated that it is not possible to describe the set by specifying directly where each point in it lies. Instead, the set may be define by 'the relations between the pieces.' It is rather like describing the solar system by quoting the law of gravitation and stating the initial conditions. Everything follows from that. It appears always to be better to describe in terms of relationships."
The Science of fractal images by M. F Barnsley ( Book )
16 editions published between 1986 and 1988 in English and German and held by 1,447 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Superfractals by M. F Barnsley ( Book )
15 editions published between 2006 and 2008 in English and Spanish and held by 648 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Superfractals is the long-awaited successor to Fractals Everywhere, in which the power and beauty of iterated function systems (IFS) were introduced and applied to producing startling and original images that reflect complex structures found, for example, in nature. This provoked the question of whether there is deeper connection among topology, geometry, IFS and codes, on one hand, and biology, DNA and protein development on the other. Now, 20 years later, Barnsley brings the story up to date by explaining how IFS have developed in order to address this issue."--BOOK JACKET

Summary: This program provides an introduction to fractal geometry. It is intended that the user will want to learn more about the Euclidean plane, linear transformation, geometry and chaotic dynamics
Fractals in multimedia by M. F Barnsley ( Book )
9 editions published between 2002 and 2011 in English and held by 160 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"This book should be useful to commercial and university researchers in the rapidly evolving field of digital imaging, specifically, chief information officers, professors, software engineers, and graduate students in the mathematical sciences. While much of the content is quite technical, it contains pointers to the state of the art and the future in fractal imaging."--BOOK JACKET
Is God a number? maths that mimic the mind ( Visual )
4 editions published between 1999 and 2004 in English and held by 57 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Examines the computational paradigms being used to model human consciousness and to quantify reality, from Euclidean geometry to fractal transform algorithms. Oxford mathematician Sir Roger Penrose, quantum physicist Reverend John Polkinghorne, compression technology expert Michael Barnsley, and physiologist Horace Barlow seek to understand how the brain functions--and grope for evidence of a guiding force ... Computer graphics enhance this exploration of inner and outer space"--Container
