Kennedy thanks her. He states that he does not run for the presidency promising that if he is elected life will be easy. Citizens are concerned with what happens in this state, and in the country, and that the U.S. maintain the peace and its own security, strength, and prestige. Changes in U.S. strength and prestige are reflected in events in the Southern Hemisphere. The people of the world wonder why the Soviet Union's economic growth exceeds that of the U.S. They respect sincerity; they want peace; they respect a nation which can see beyond its own image. The people of the world desire to be free. The U.S. must rebuild its military strength, revamp its goals in science and education, move rapidly to shape its image at home, move forward on the road to peace, and hold out a helping hand to those who desire to be independent
