Er geht uns von Anfang bis zum Schluss derart ans Herz und erschüttert unser Zwerchfell, dass er 1998 vom American Institute in die Liste der 100 Besten amerikanischen Filme aufgenommen wurde. Der Tonfilm hatte sich bereits durchgesetzt, als sich Charles Chaplin hartnäckig gegen die neue Art des Filmemachens stemmte und diesen unsterblichen Klassiker ohne Dialog drehte - auf der Tonspur sind nur Musik und Geräusche zu hören. Die Geschichte zeigt die Versuche des Tramps, Geld für eine Operation zu verdienen, durch die ein blindes Blumenmädchen das Augenlicht wieder erlangen soll. Dadurch schafft sich der Star einen idealen Rahmen für Gags und grosse Gefühle. Der Tramp jobbt abwechselnd als Strassenkehrer und Boxer, er gibt sich als reicher Mann aus und bewahrt einen Millionär vor dem Selbstmord. El hombre contra la maquina¡ y el ganador es cualquier fan de la comedia cuando Charlot, el vagabundo de Chaplin, se enfrenta a sus enemigos en la linea de ensamble en este clasico seleccionado en 1998 por el Instituto Americano de Cinematografia como una de las 100 mejores peliculas de Estados Unidos. Charlot entra en accion y hace de las suyas dentro de una fabrica en donde, artefactos como una maquina alimentadora de empleados podia hacer que la hora de comida durara tan solo 15 minutos. Cuando es despedido, se une a una muchacha desamparada (Paulette Goddard) para encontrar la felicidad y una paga, encontrando solo problemas al trabajar como velador en patines, como cantante al que no se le entiende nada, o como preso, entre otros. Al final se van hombro con hombro en busca de un futuro incierto; sabemos que no encontraron la felicidad ni una paga, sin embargo, se encontraron el uno al otro. Los tiempos y la satira permanecen por siempre en Tiempos Modernos
