Before 1900, Sir "Pio Degli Ulivi" is a well-known ecclesiastic tailor, humble and prudent. His brother "Ottone Spinelli Degli Ulivi", alias "Zazà", is the complete opposite, a decadent Baron who owes a lot of money. Ottone is in the middle of having a contract for a musical comedy cancelled because of his debts. So he decides to ask his brother for help and introduces Patrizia, who will perform in the musical, as his own daughter. Pio decides to invite them both home.
