The Gregorieff family emigrated to America from Russia via Turkey in the years following the Russian Revolution. Alexander Paul and Concordia Mehilovna Gregorieff were friends of the Dowager Empress Maria Fedorovna, the mother of Tsar Nicholas II. Alexander met with the Tsar's two sisters and brother until the outbreak of the Revolution at which time they lost their home and their status and went into hiding. They eventually moved to Turkey. The family's lives in Russia and Turkey are documented in these papers. Many of the personal documents are in Russian (certificates, documents, passports and visas, letters and diaries among other papers). The Gregorieff children represented in the collection include Tamara, George, Igor and Concordia by such documents as grade reports from Constantinople, memorabilia, photographs, notebooks, art work, scrapbooks, and presents. One of the scrapbooks documents the family's emigration to the United States and includes identification documents. Tamara served in the Womens Army Air Corps during World War II and her papers include a scrapbook filled with memorabilia, special orders, correspondence, military documents and photographs. Concordia lived the majority of her life in West Hartford and she was active in many civic and arts activities
