Tribal nations the story of federal Indian law ( Visual )
1 edition published in 2006 in English and held by 165 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Alaska tribes have journeyed on a unique path in the settlement of their aboriginal claims. This 55 minute documentary beautifully illustrates the history of that path and the impacts of federal laws and policies on Alaska Native people. It covers the political and legal history of the tribes from the Russian presence in Alaska, the sale of Alaska to the United States in 1867, the early acts and cases that established the federal trust responsibility for Alaska Native people, and the build up to the passage of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) in 1971. The film captures what ANCSA accomplished and the issues left unresolved; the Native way of life called 'subsistence'and the status of Alaska tribes and their jurisdiction

Koyukuk River traditional ecological knowledge of non-salmon fish ( )
1 edition published in 2004 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Koyukuk River Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) of Non-Salmon Fish (referred to here as Koyukuk Non-Salmon TEK) is a searchable database of local knowledge compiled by the Division of Subsistence, Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF & G), 2004. The Subsistence Division conducted interviews in 2002-2003 with Alaska Native residents of eight communities along the Koyukuk River as the basis for this database. The participating communities were: Alatna, Allakaket, Bettles, Evansville, Hughes, Huslia, Koyukuk, and Wiseman. The primary purpose of this project was to begin the process of collecting and documenting traditional knowledge through interviews with local experts. TEK interviews were conducted with a total of 29 individuals from throughout the Koyukuk drainage. In addition to this largely historical perspective, a door-to-door harvest survey was conducted to provide estimates of the contemporary (2002) annual harvest of non-salmon fish in Koyukuk River communities (see Community Harvests link). These data show that fish continue to be harvested and used in significant quantities by a high percentage of area households
