<<Blonde on Blonde>> war nicht Bob Dylans erstes <<elektrisches>> Album, aber als erstes Doppelalbum der Rock-Geschichte und Gipfel seines kreativen Höhenflugs von 1965-66 definiert es den vielgerühmten wilden Quecksilber-Sound wohl besser als jede andere Platte. -- Aus dem angeblichen Protestsänger war ein subtiler Poet geworden, und mit Songs wie <<Visions of Johanna>> und <<Just Like A Woman>> sprengte er die Grenzen dessen, was bis dahin in der Popmusik gesagt werden konnte. -- Zugleich lieferte Dylan aber auch noch echte Chart-Hits wie <<Rainy Day Women>> (mit dem vieldeutigen Refrain <<Everybody Must Get Stoned>>) und das elegant-erotische <<I Want You>>. -- Sogar die spätere Wende zum lieblichen Country-Rock nahm er vorweg, denn für die Sessions zu <<Blonde on Blonde>> reiste er bereits ein erstes Mal nach Nashville. -- Kurz danach kam die legendäre England-Tournee mit The Hawks, dann der mysteriöse Motorradunfall in der Nähe von Woodstock: ein Meister am historischen Höhepunkt seiner Karriere.
