Les travaux de recherche présentés (1981-1995) portent sur deux domaines : d'une part, celui des rapports entre le développement de l'optique moderne au XVIIe siècle (notamment chez Kepler) et la philosophie cartésienne de la connaissance ; d'autre part, celui de la formation de l'interprétation philosophique de la mécanique quantique au début du XXe (notamment chez Bohr, Heisenberg et Pauli). La question directrice qui unifie ces deux intérêts est celle que soulève Husserl dans la crise des sciences européennes : pourquoi la philosophie moderne est-elle, depuis Descartes, assignée à poser le problème de la connaissance sous la forme du "rationalisme objectiviste" et pourquoi une telle position du problème est-elle intenable ? Husserl lie cette question à celle de l'identification cartésienne du monde des corps au "monde galiléen" et il y oppose, quoique de manière elliptique, la transformation de la physique au XXe siècle. L'essentiel de la thèse consiste dans l'analyse des raisons qui, selon un mouvement analogue, ont conduit les principaux fondateurs de la mécanique quantique - Bohr, Heisenberg et Pauli - à orienter l'ensemble de leur interprétation vers une critique de la philosophie moderne. Cette interprétation, connue en philosophie des sciences contemporaines sous le nom d'"interprétation de Copenhague", est toujours discutée aujourd'hui dans les débats sur les fondements de la mécanique quantique. Mais elle a été, en règle générale, dissociée entièrement de son contexte historique et philosophique de formation, c'est-adire à la fois de la construction de la théorie quantique entre 1913 et 1927 et de l'héritage de la philosophie allemande
